All of the people mentioned by the doctor who are responsible-- the governor, the mayor, and the women on the board of supervisors, were elected to their positions by voters. They aren't DEI hires.

No one and I mean no one has done more to harm America than Democrats.

I was thinking of race-based hires for acting roles, and yes you could reasonably argue for hiring a white person on the basis of their race. Don't think that's particularly controversial.

In scenarios where there is a bias against a person of a certain race in hiring because they are unfairly perceived as less qualified, one could argue for hiring a well-qualified person of that race as way to combat that bias. The argument should apply regardless of the race for which that bias exists.

I'm just waiting for you to make a clear connection between DEI and the preparedness against these wildfires. Pointing out that there are women in charge in LA is not enough.

It's not like I'm unwilling to see flaws in DEI programs/initiatives.

Huge discrepancy in rain and water resources. Not even close.

I am living in CA and right in the middle of the three largest of the fires. You have zero idea what you are talking about.

There is no cure for that woke mind virus that infected you. I got out of California just in time before it goes up in flames like it is now.

Gavin Newsom literally lies to a woman about the fires, and we can literally see that it is a lie.

WOMAN: "Governor!... I live here! That was my daughter's school! Please, tell me what you're going to do!"

NEWSOM: "I'm literally talking to the President to specifically answer the question of what we can do...."

WOMAN: "Can I hear? Can I hear your call? Because I don't believe it."

NEWSOM (showing her his phone): "Um, I'm sorry. There's literally — I've tried 5 times. I'm walking around to make the call."

How is "the city cut fire department budget" a statement of fact?

I'm not really following this conversation but your question caught my eye.

Pretty sure this is what you're asking about?

No joke. All you have to do is look at the annual rainfall to know that.
The last time Los Angeles recorded rainfall over a tenth of an inch — the threshold that officials typically consider helpful for thirsty plants and the reduction of wildfire risk — was May 5, when downtown received just 0.13 inches of rain.

Since July 1, San Diego has only received 0.16 inch of rain at the San Diego International Airport. We get more than that every time it rains.

We got over 10" in July alone, and almost 60" for the year.

Yes, it's untrue. People like @AroundTheWorld talk about it as fact. Plenty of people in this thread have wasted time talking about something that is false. I am pretty sure he will refuse to admit that he's wrong, as it would call into question the credibility of everything else that he has posted, which is a shame.

But as Politico pointed out, Los Angeles mayor Karen Bass didn’t cut $23 million from the fire department’s budget, a claim that has been repeated by critics on both the right and the left, some of whom said Bass cut fire department funding to pay for a new police contract. The fire department’s budget actually increased by more than $50 million over the previous year, according to Politico, though others have noted that LA fire chief Kristin Crowley criticized Bass’ decision to cut $7 million from the department’s overtime budget just a few weeks before the Palisades fire. “The reduction … has severely limited the department’s capacity to prepare for, train for, and respond to large-scale emergencies, including wildfires,” Crowley wrote in a December 4th memo.

I've never heard Democrats blaming actual hurricanes on Republicans. Maybe I missed something. Maybe it was about climate change denial, but not blaming them for hurricanes themselves. Wasn't it Republicans coming up with conspiracy theories about steering hurricanes somehow? That's about as ridiculous as blaming Democrats for a fire starting in a drought ridden area and spreading quickly from high winds, or talking about raking millions of acres of forest to alleviate fires. How many people would have to be employed to rake 33 million acres of forest a week?
