Personally, I am not all in on trying to trade for Butler, but I wouldn't mind something like this: Rockets In: Jimmy Butler, Duncan Robinson, Coby White Rockets Out: FVV, Reed, Cam, Jeff Green, Jock Heat In: FVV, Lavine Heat Out: Butler, Robinson, Rozier Bulls In: Reed, Cam, Rozier, Jeff Green (buy out), Jock Bulls Out: Lavine, Coby We have our FVV replacement now and in the future, increase our odds of a championship, don't give up any of the best prospects on our team, and keep our depth and picks to either develop or trade for a star. I think the Bulls have a hard time giving up Coby, but he gets replaced with two prospects on a rookie contract and they can really rebuild while getting out of Lavine's deal.
It would be unprecedented for the #2 team in the division to trade away their 3rd leading scorer and top assist man in the middle of the season. A GM would be laying their entire career on that move.
It definitely has its risks for some of the reasons you mentioned, but I don't think he would be laying his career on the line considering we don't still have a ton of future potential (players and picks), we find a long-term solution for PG, and we have a definite go-to guy for the playoffs. If it doesn't workout, then we ended up trading Reed/Cam for Cody to replace FVV (which, I really really like FVV on our team)
3 team trade. Works in Fanspo. Houston in: Kevin Durant, Tre Jones, Zack Collins Spurs 2025 frp, Spurs 2026 frp Houston Out: 25 Phoenix swap, 27 Phoenix swap, 29 Phoenix swap, FVV, Cam, Holiday Spurs In: Devin Booker, Jock Landale, Tate, Spurs out: H. Barnes, C. Paul, Collins, Tre Jones, Spurs 2025 frp, Spurs 2026 frp, Spurs 27 frp, Spurs 28 frp Phoenix In. C.Paul, FVV, Holiday, H. Barnes 25 phoenix frp, 27 phoenix frp, 29 phoenix frp, Spurs 27 frp, spurs 28 frp Phoenix Out: Kevin Durant, Devin Booker Rockets get 2 picks for 2 swaps and 1 pick, Kevin Durant for playoff run this year and next year, Tre Jones backup PG, Zack Collins PF depth Suns get Cam, expirings and 5 picks Spurs get Booker for 4 picks and expirings Rockets make a go this year and next with Amen, Jalen, Durant, Jabari/Dillon, Sengun Bench: Tre Jones, Zack Collins, Jabari/Dillon, Adams And have a 25 pick and 26 pick. In 26 they have two expiring contracts in Durant and Collins to play it out or trade.
I think it makes us a better team. I just don’t think any GM would have the fortitude to actually pull the trigger on that kind of deal with a team in our position. He would go into the GM Hall of Fame as Rafael Stones.
It’s not exactly the same, but Morey did trade away our starting point guard during a playoff push in 2009, and that worked out OK (Rafer Alston for Kyle Lowry).
It's not the move itself, but the fact that a team he put together is #2 in the division. We are not catching OKC no matter what we do, so a move like that can only have negative connotations. If he sits on his hands and we end up at #4, people will say "maybe they should have made a move' or "maybe they wouldn't have fallen if not for injuries.'" But if you make that move and we end up finishing #4, everyone will blame the drop on that move, even if reality is that the move probably prevented us from dropping to #6 or #7.
I would like to think fans are more reasonable than that and could understand the risk/reward gamble there, but I also know fans can be very unreasonable
This trade looks like it is designed to get Booker to the Spurs without the Spurs giving up much and remove FVV from the Rockets such that Amen doesn't have to compete for PG minutes. Rockets would be better off just cutting FVV than making this trade.
I like this trade - however, I don't see the Suns trading away Booker...a couple years ago, he took them to the Finals. They're definitely trading Durant once they can find a way to get rid of Bradley Beal.
You got it partly right. Giving up 4 picks, Collins and trey is pretty good compensation for Booker. As far as the Rockets are concerned, we have a real shot at contention this year and next, retain really good expiring contracts (for trades or cap room) after 25/26 season and add back two frp's. I may be in the minority, but I think Collins is a high quality bench player and Trey a better backup Pg than Holiday. Getting rid of FVV is a main priority for me to save Ime from himself and let Amen and Jalen blossom.
They won't find a way to get rid of Beal. I just can't believe there is a team in the league stupid enough to take that contract.
I can see Charlotte taking a chance on him...Lamelo/B. Miller/Beal could be a good combo and in return the Suns could get some thugs on their team in Grant Williams/Miles Bridges because the Suns are soft like toilet paper.
im gonna use that in the reverse. “The rockets are hard and abrasive like cheap toilet player”. That’s good.
So, I know he doesn’t help the Rockets 3pt shooting, but what about helping the Kings get Butler and snagging DeRozen in the process? SAC IN: Butler HOU IN: DeRozen MIA IN: Huerter, Londale, Jeff Green and a 2026 FRP from SAC (protected to 5) DeRozen would give the bench a proven scorer who could be a safety valve when things get stagnant. His contract isn’t great but I think that consolidating a couple expiring for a reasonable contract that can be flipped down the line makes sense. DeRozen could also offer some FVV insurance in case he is offered more than what the Rockets offer. I don’t think that will happen but I really don’t know what will happen with Fred in the offseason. I’m not sure if the Rockets can decline his option and then exceed the cap to re-sign him. I kind of think that the Rockets might pick up his option so that he is a massive trade chip next season. Maybe IDIOT on this topic after the trade deadline.
