    :rolleyes::rolleyes: the Santa Ana winds, @ 60 - 80 mph, are avoidable !

    it is as laughable as
    • Trump lying that Calif has lots of water
    • Invisible Fan claiming that the Fed is wrecking its balance sheet

    There are practical difficulties in providing specific pre-planned evacuation routes, as the article mentions. I suppose we can question the lack of urgency in addressing evacuation planning and ensuring sufficient resources are in place to more effectively manage it. Who are the people responsible for this, and are they "DEI hires"?

    Haven’t read thread, too much bullshit and right wing propaganda spam.

    But since this is D&D, so I’m curious to see if houses in these heavy fire (and earthquake) prone areas shift to building homes like the Japanese do- much lower costs, effectively disposable.

    At any rate I would say big code updates are in order to consider these two factors for any new home construction or major renovation. Codes should also include super efficient use of water, gas and electricity. It’s going to cost more but if you’re in CA you’re in it for a pound anyway.

    Though the cause of the current blaze has yet to be established, commentators are already making familiar claims that climate change is igniting more wildfires in California—a thesis with no basis in fact.

    That sounds like a strawman to me. The claim is that a warming climate contributes to draught conditions, which in turn exacerbates the problems posed by wildfires. The link in this sentence doesn't counter this claim, it merely downplays the role of climate change.

    Some state and local officials even argue that high winds caused the wildfires. Not so: wind, by itself, doesn’t create sparks that trigger wildfires, though it certainly worsens them once they’ve started, as is happening here.

    The link in this sentence gives Newsom's quote as: "This is a highly dangerous windstorm that’s creating extreme fire risk – and we’re not out of the woods." It also says: "Officials indicated that extremely high winds have worsened the fire if not directly caused it." I don't see any quotes from officials asserting that the fires (as opposed to "extreme fire risk") were simply created by the wind.

    "Nobody should be hired based on race or gender" is a fair perspective. I think there are reasonable arguments against it in some circumstances, but it's still a fair position to have.

    My problem is with people who assume that if someone looks a certain way, they must be a "DEI hire". The presumption that someone must not be qualified for their job because of their race or gender is harmful. It gives bigots any easy path for scapegoating the people they don't like, and distracts from finding real solutions to problems.

    Huh? You are the one applying the 1/64th rule. I'm saying she's 50% black, you are saying she's 100% black.

    I'm saying people of mixed race if it includes black identity as black because of this country's history and to now chastise someone for doing so because you are trying to prove whatever stupid bullshit you're trying to prove is evil

    When Obama was born it was still the law

    You don’t have to look at the DEI hires for who they are but what they do. 9 out of 10 times they will suck at their jobs because they were chosen for the position not because they were qualified but because of who they are.

    Your 2nd paragraph is obviously correct.

    But in the 1st part, do any of your “reasonable arguments” support hiring white people because of their race?
