I'm not opposed to the US making a fair offer for Greenland and acquiring it, if the people of Greenland are supportive of it. Acquiring through coercion and/or against the will of the people who live there, I don't support. What about you?

The United States acquiring Greenland via purchase would be welcome. I wouldn't start a war to acquire it. I don't know that I need the passage of a popular referendum by the people of Greenland for the U.S. to acquire it. There are only 58,000 people or so on this massive, almost entirely uninhabited important strategic island. Say 66% of Greenlanders opposed annexation by the U.S. ... I wouldn't let the vote of 40,000 or so people forever alter the geopolitical landscape and security interests of the liberal world order.

Would that suck for Greenlanders? Yea, maybe. I think independence would be a disaster for Greenland anyway. I think the economic support and protections of the United States government are actually in the best interest of the people of Greenland anyway.

We've seen examples of this. The fate of Comoros and the fate of Mayotte are pertinent examples of what happens when far flung islands move for or against independence.

I would want the US to come to a mutually beneficial arrangement with the local inhabitants that they agree to by majority vote or through their representatives.
