Haven't both of those guys done that at some point in their career though particularly around the age of one Jalen Green who's fans - whether you agree with or not - believe his development was pushed forward by Silas. I get you may not agree, but that's who you chose to talk to. It's not a small leap. It's not a common one especially as years go by. However, they gave him $100m. You don't think Stone or Udoka think this is realistic in the future? You think they're expecting him to improve only slightly? What about like half of what VC is saying?
take away the bot and alt account posts, and the Sengun thread would have 1/2 the amount of pages…convince me otherwise
I've never suggested that he won't make the leap. That is not the point I'm trying to make. I'm not even trying to comment at all on the likelihood of him making this leap. The thing that annoys me (and the post I originally responded to) is when guys make statements like "oh, all he needs to do is (insert thing here) and then he'll go from 'time to learn Chinese buddy' to superstar? That's it???" They're implying that the thing they've suggested is easy, it's small, it's a simple task. They present it as though it's not that big of a deal. But the thing being suggested is actually a monumental leap. The people who make these types of statements typically don't understand the magnitude of what they're suggesting. So I try to put it into perspective. We're talking about a gap that's bigger than the gap between Brunson and SGA. Or to put it another way, if a player on a 41-41 team were to make this leap, that would move the team from 41-41 to 53-29. It's an improvement from one single player that's worth 12 team wins. It's something I've seen many times before, so it struck a nerve.
If it’s “hard” why is the expectation that it needs to happen by X season or be compared to other star players? Progress is not linear for everyone. That’s a big pitfall with the stats community. If it doesn’t happen on their arbitrary timeframe then it will never happen because of more stats that prove it. If it’s so close why is it so far away? YOU see him every game. You’d by lying to yourself if he doesn’t make you shake your head in both disbelief and vitriol. It’s part of the experience. He’s historic on one hand and wildly inconsistent on the other, but you guys can’t even appreciate the highs without qualifiers and calculators pounding. Doom posting has to get old and takes infinitely more energy. Is it that much fun?
I get you. It's like when an entrepreneur tells me he only needs 1% of the market share to be a trillionaire. I don't think VC means it the way you're explaining but I get your pet peeve. I think when such a leap happens, it's not difficult for the player. In fact it sometimes looks so easy that you think "Why didn't I think that could happen?". Best example being Harden upon joining the Rockets. It's just rare. Happens or not kind of thing. It would have to be a player who at least showed that ceiling and a willingness to work hard and be coached.
If this is the impression you got from my post, or the point you think I'm trying to make, then I must be really bad at making my own points. This is not at all what I'm trying to say and not at all how I thought my posts were being read.
This is a perfect analogy lol. I love it. Yes, that's exactly what I'm trying to say, thank you. It's not that I don't think he can make the leap, I think that he can. I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade. I'm just very bothered by "if I only capture 1% of the marketshare" type posts.
And honestly I shouldn’t lump you in with all the other crunchers as you have been more pragmatic. It just gets old bro.
yes dude it’s all arbitrary. League avg, 3pt%, TS%. The definition of “good”. The usage of the term “sucks”. All arbitrary with little to no supporting information or analysis other than 1 or 2 metrics. It’s mind boggling how ignorant some of these arguments and justifications against him are. This is not about @harold bingo but rather those tired arguments with little analysis, context, and understanding of the game.
League average is what everything is based on, otherwise how else would you evaluate anything? If league average TS was 44%, Jalen would be an mvp level player right now and i would be yelling for him to increase his usage. You win games by scoring more points than opponent, which is done through offensive and defensive efficiency. They're not playing in a vacuum, they're playing in a league against specific teams.
League average ts includes big men lob threats who only score on tip ins and lobs league average ts includes guards on tanking teams not trying at all on defense and allowed to do whatever on offense. Ask yourself if guys like LaMelo or Poole would have their ts% they have now if they were asked to play the min standards of Ime level defense.
Poole's most efficient seasons were on the warriors, are you saying they didn't play defense? Or that kerr didn't care about defense?
Not nearly as much as Ime especially given Ker understanding that he has to reserve a lot of stamina for his guys due to a very movement heavy offense. And Poole was and will always be a horrible defender even when he was on the Warriors. Kerr makes sure there are certain guys on the roster that sustain high level defensive effort like Draymond but there didn't bench Poole for lazy defense the way Ime does with his players.
Is your opinion basically that it's impossible to have efficient offense under Ime? If so, he should be fired yesterday.
