If the Rockets only get 1 all-star should it be Sengun or Jalen?

The team is too good to not have representation, but honestly no player really deserves an all-star nod. It has been a defensive collectively led effort.

However you have to realize that Jalen Green is actually really really popular with young kids. You old dudes here probably don't get it, but I coach youth basketball, and the boys even here in DFW love Jalen.

So to me, I think the Rockets should probably promote him to be the main representative for the Rockets although most hardcore fans here think Sengun is the key to their offense, and best player. Given that the All Star game is a popularity contest, I would encourage the Rockets to promote and older fans to just grin and bear it if Jalen is "the guy" the team pushes to send up, and ultimately gets the nod.... Which we do deserve to have someone for sure.

However I think Sengun should be competitive enough to get consideration as well as a big. But the competition might be too much to overcome. Jalen has a better chance IMO anyways.

 

If Jalen's numbers are bad, it's the numbers being Jaters or the fault of the person citing them accurately.

Clearly Jalen is the greatest player in the history of the league.

I disagree with some who think Sengun shouldn't make the All Start team. Yes, he needs to improve his efficiency, but he is also:

• 9th in VORP
• 10th in BPM
• 11th in WS
• 3rd in DWS
• 15th in PER
• 9th in Defensive Rating among players averaging 30+ minutes
• 12th in PIE among players averaging 30+ minutes

Combine the above with the fact that he's the best player on the 2nd seed in the West, and I think you have a pretty compelling case for an All Star selection.

He has been better than those 2, he hasn't been as impactful as Amen,Eason and (I know fans loathe him) FVV even with his shooting slump.

He is "just" offense in terms of plus value, and when you don't bring that consistently it's hard to make a real impact versus guys who impact a multitude of ways.

For Amen and Eason their primary impact is defense, not really offense so it technically isn't "multiple ways".

BUT to your point, this team is great because of defense and Tari and Amen are significant parts of that so by that logic they are more impactful. So I concise at least with Amen being more impactful. Tari just hasn't played enough and he doesn't have A men's explosion on offense that can make it it more clear that he's more impactful than Jalen. So yes Amen is more impactful than Jalen.

I think Fred has put a restraint on the full potential of this offense that has limited the ceiling of this team. So it's debatable. Last season no question due to Fred's defensive consistency vs Green's sporadic effort. But this season that baseline effort between the two is roughly the same. Fred provides a steady presence in limiting turnovers on offense but he cant bend defenses like Green can.

I understand your frustration with the Stat Misunderstanders but it is funny that you are saying this to a guy who is literally a math teacher with a math degree. I can say fairly confidently that he would pass whatever exam you gave him.

 

I'd think his math degree is relevant if the poster ever posted a reply doing anything more than spitting out these numbers without no additional commentary to reinforce those numbers.

Statistical modeling is pretty niche also. Like my degree was math heavy with mechanical engineering and we barely touched upon statistical modeling when it's applied to the manufacturing process.
