Offensive line should always be the priority. Is it the sexy pick? No. But it should be. I would only look at another position in the first round if the value just isn't there or another play slips that they didn't expect to.
I would go vet OL... we've done ok with vet OL IMHO. Free agency = WR (trade?) + IOL + Edge Draft = TE + 3rd CB/S + speed back / RB + WR?
Take the best all around blocking TE in the 1st. Trade up in the 2nd for the best blocking LG you can get. Sign a RG like Feliciano in FA and draft a guy like Majors in the 4-5 th rd range. Blocking blocking and more blocking, that's what this team needs.
What I find interesting is that Warren is a better pass blocker, but a terrible run blocker when comparing to Fannin Jr and Warrens pass blocking is nothing to write home about. https://www.pff.com/college/grades/position/te
You cant teach 6'6 260 that much is certain so by the law of physics alone he should have the upper hand in that department. I dont see a 'great' blocker when I've watched his tape so far, but he does offer that big body to impede a defender. There's more than one way to skin a cat I agree, but modifying everything that happens in the offseason around a laser focus on one guy is dangerous. I would prefer to sign FAs to occupy the OL positions in most need, but we only have around 14Ms of cap space as of today for next season. Obviously that number will change and hopefully go up, but its not like the FA market is stocked with OL worth a dang to spend that money on this year anyhow. Trade may be another way to address the problem as long as everyone recognizes WHERE we need to be putting most of our attention. I dont see a big gap among the top 3 TEs - there is no Brock Bowers in this draft, so with that I have a hard time handcuffing the first pick to any of them.
Makes since to me and while I would be picking Warren, there's a case to be made to draft a guy like Booker or Milum in Rd. 1 and pick Loveland, Fannin, Taylor, Helm in rd 2 -3.
Yeah **** drafting lineman. I mean if there is a slam dunk I guess take it, but I’d rather attack skill positions in the draft and spend money in FA on veteran lineman. The best o lines don’t have a ton of stars just a group of solid guys. I don’t need more rookie lineman out there ****ing it up even worse.
You don't think James Daniels is worth it? He's coming off a injury which means his stock is lower than where it would be otherwise? PFF has him as a top 3 guard in the league.
A few draft ‘analyst’ are saying this draft is weak. If so then I’m all for trading back into day two. The Raiders would be dumb enough to overpay for Deions Precious Little Boy and could use the draft capital.
Draft Booker or Milum and sign Daniels that makes Scruggs a great depth piece and creates great competition on the IOL spots. Daniels has played center in college Then draft the best TE you can draft even if that means having to trade up, he's got a be an above avg blocker and the OL would look a lot better. I had another thought. Trade the 2nd rd pick to the Raiders for Mayer. That guy can block and is a solid receiver.
What kind of salary is Daniels looking to get? Is an Achilles rupture discrediting for an OL moving forward? Honestly I'd prefer to throw whatever money we allot to FA OL at the center position.
I'm on board with FA Ryans Kelly and drafting Booker. This would create IOL competition. Kelly has had some injury issues but is a pro bowl level player when healthy. He's going to cost more than Daniels though.
Hell yeah sign me up. Even if you only sign Kelly that may make enough of a difference while you allow the camp battles at the G positions. edit: If you told me we can get Kelly then pick 1 is open to discussion.
