Nah, he is just struggling a little bit.. Will snap out of it once he gets back after all star weekend...
They're lessons. you guys act like Boozer wasn't matched up on Yao to gain an advantage. The fronting of the Sonics to make centers miserable. GS running the same play over and over 2015-2019. The good ones find ways to overcome. The problem is some of you can't even allow for the opportunity to happen. Have to b**** bc you don't like the player or "his fans".
No defense wasn't his only problem. He was playing lazy on the switches and then would try to close out late, which either gave an open 3 or would have the guy drive right by him. His offense ...this will be more the norm (unless he's paying Gobert for some reason) as teams have figured him out. If anything, he's contracted his assortment of moves since last season, no longer using up and unders and rarely fake spinning one direction and then going the other. His defense is marginally better on average (although not of late), FTs are a little better (although not of late), and rebounding is a little better (although not of late). Most of those are trending toward being worse than last season. The rest of his game has gotten worse, including finish around the rim and shooting from all ranges. This guy thinks he's better than he is (remember the "too small" nonsense?); getting a reality check and some humiliation as he experienced tonight and when Adams eats up more and more of his minutes may push him to meaningfully improve his game this offseason and ultimately help his career.
I'll start worrying when one of these negative predictions for sengun actually come true. Sengun will be this, Sengun will be that and it never happens. It usually goes the other way, the haters (not meaning you are one) have a hard time when sengun beats even the most ridiculous bars set. It will surely happen again
it was a bad game for Sengun, but a great game for the rockets. This roster is deep and somebody always steps up.
Looking at the box score he was 6-14. But only six boards. I did not get to see the game but judging by the fda @Reeko , salvy and some others his defense made the joker look like Ben Wallace tonight.
Sengun can miss shots all day, it happens... But to let Adams outhustle you and outplay you on defense is unacceptable....
First off, I don't mean the term Sengunatic in a derogatory way. It's just a reference to those here who relentlessly defend him. I have no problem with them. A small portion of Sengunatics are toxic; these people pollute discussion. Going forward, I will try to avoid using the term. Tonight's game and the coming playoffs are indeed lessons for Alpi to learn from. At the same time, we've watched him play for 4 years and it's not premature to draw some conclusions.
Last year, he looked down when he was not selected too. He should be able to keep his confidence at tough times but he has been always criticized and kept accountable for his mistakes more than others. It is natural for him to get upset when struggling. He is hitting the stardom wall and will be much better if he gets the support he deserved.
He gets criticized the same, if anything he probably gets criticized the least.... Green gets most of the criticism and actually sat in the 4th when not playing well....
You are just an alt of one of the typical haters. Get back to me when a "bad" game for your hero is 14/6/4 on 6-14 shooting in a win. The other guys' bad games look more like 5-21 and no rebounds and no assists.
Alperen needs to just focus on playing his game without second thoughts. I don't want to comment on Green, only I don't agree about him being hold the most accountable. He played great today
He got blocked 3 times, passed up open outside shots in the flow of the offense (which ultimately hurts the team and forced rushed shots by others), threw up some garbage shots, had 3 less rebounds in like 14 more minutes than Adams. and his defense was poor. It was a bad game and they are starting to become his new norm.
Rockets have the fifth best record in the league, and Sengun has been the Rockets' best player. You can keep hating - it won't change a thing.
Our whole team has limitations in playoff series. Hence us getting blown out in the NBA cup game. Even the greatest Sengun fans realize he's not a finished product. Until he develops a reliable jumper he will struggle against good defensive teams. Right now he is too one dimensional. But to say he can't ever get there is false as he has shown improvement each year and he is still so young.
Agreed. On offense, Alpi's lack of verticality demands that he become a more versatile scorer. Until he drains mid-range jumpers like FTs and makes decisions quicker, Alpi will struggle when the Rockets need him most. (Personally, I don't think he needs a 3-point shot, but there are so many people on the forum who think that is the solution to every problem). On defense, his physical limitations are on display regularly. It's a straw man to say no Alpi fans believe he is a finished product. Of course not. They all say "he is young and will improve". The issue is some of them refuse to acknowledge his current shortcomings by blaming Udoka for everything. The Rockets are committed to him so we'll live with the results for at least 2-3 more years.
Sengun is not an all-star and I hope he doesn’t get the vote. He is very good and I am thrilled we have him, but until he learns how to show up in the clutch and play good defense and win games for us by making two pressure free throws (which he has never done in his career with under a minute left in a tight game)….then he is not an all-star, just a very good above average player. He’s needs to spend the offseason working on free throws to be an all-star.
All agreed, except for the defense comment. I think overall he is a better than average/good defender now most of the game. But he can't afford to lose concentration. Sometimes he goes on spurts of lack of concentration an he looks useless on defense on consecutive plays and then taken out of the game, which should not happen for a good defender. So maybe regularly but more like coming in spurts rather than being bad constantly. Actually the same thing happens sometimes in offense too, showing itself with consecutive turnovers or bad shots. But it happens more rarely.
