Sounds good but the board will have to wait for @Stephen_A to put his eyeball test stamp of approval on these opinions. He has assured me he knows best.
The Jalen/Alpi PnR is not good yet unfortunately bro. Both defenders just sag and let any of them shoot, our conversion rate on it is not one of our best plays. What will change this is when one of them actually becomes a threat to make 3PTers in that situation. On those pull up 3's in the PnR with Sengun, Jalen is shooting like 28% or something. No one is going to run into a screen or guard Jalen closely, they will just back pedal and let him shoot. He's also shooting very poorly on mid range, worst of his career I believe. He has never had an above average season making that shot. In fact, he's never even had a slightly below average season. He's never shot it at a % higher than our average team TS%. I know it looks sexy, but the last thing Jalen Green needs to do it take literally his least efficient shot and increase its volume. He makes all the other shots at a higher %. He can get FT's on drives. He can keep his defender out of the paint. My personal view? I've never seen Green have a good season from the most prominent shots a scorer takes (Drives, 3's, FT's). If he finally did it this season, I promise you it still won't be at a level that he doesn't need to keep improving on - and it will have still come with a disgustingly inconsistent start to his season. So next season we will STILL be hoping he finally has a good season start to finish. Do you really want to add complexity and new shots to his diet at that point? Hell no for me. I would go in the exact opposite direction. I would cut out his 2 least efficient shot types (midrange and pull up 3's), show him how it would raise his average to his best season ever, then make him double down on that further at the start of next season hoping to get a basic, simple good whole season out of him where he just needs to be good on drives, 3's and FT's. That's supposed to happen in his 2nd/3rd year in the league but they botched his development under Silas. So then if NEXT season he has a whole season where he was so mature and simple with his shot diet, then the FOLLOWING season yes I'd want him to showcase a pull up 3 and midrange J that he's been secretly working on improving from 2024 to 2026. That's the thing with this team. Tons of guys young and old are taking experimental shots, taking shots that CLEARLY shouldn't have the training wheels taken off yet. That's an Ime problem, he has this dumb idea that if someone plays more defense and grabs more rebounds then they can take more stupid shots. Well then what the F was the point of the defense? Your defense is saving you like 10 points and you're letting the team take 14-18 dumb shots a game in exchange? It's honestly ridiculous. It's your life Ime you get to delegate whatever you want, but you are responsible for BOTH the offense and the defense even if you delegate. That's how delegation works. You can't go out in ever interview acting like you've done your job (defense) and the kids aren't doing theirs (offense). Those are both your jobs too.
May I remind you that March Madness is the End of a season. So he has a nice ending of a season......
The higher he flies, the deeper he falls.......the disappointment would ensue.....hopefully he becomes an All Star though. At least having something to look back on. Some of his on ball Defense was great though but it took a mad man like Udoka to squeeze that out of him.
My brother in Christ, we just got pulverized by an undermanned Boston team (granted, we are also down a few guys). There have been games in the past where JG carried us to a nice win, this wasn't one of them. I did like that one play where he shut Tatum down with some great D
Half way through his 4th season it’s clear we should have traded Jalen last year. Let’s not make the same mistake this year.
Don't like threads like this because it gives a way for haters to crap on him on nights when they should avoid the GARM. Some posters would avoid posting last night if this thread didn't pop up.
Check out the Jaters LMAO they just cant help themselves! "But, But, But THE STATS!!" At least we know Jalen will show up for the big games. He doesnt get shut down by bench players. Jalen stops Jalen. Watching him go at Tatum was a pretty cool in game battle. I like the way Jalen is initiating offense as the playmaker. Two man game with Sengun is nearly unstoppable. Corral the exaggerated 3 pt attempts into ball handling duties and that will help everyone.
I've been saying this for awhile, it's time to put the ball in Jalen's hands. When the ball is inches hands, he's more involved, less standing around while FVV and Sengun play two man ball. I can see a lineup next yr of; PG - JALEN SG - CAM SF - DILLON PF - JABARI C - SENGUN
LOL. What will be the title of the thread when we see his end of the year averages? Get out those crystal balls. It's all a guessing game as to whether he will consistently improve his shooting percentages for the year or not.
Im not sure I'd advocate for full time lead guard duties, but he should definitely be given more leeway to create for others. The way he's finding shooters off the double team and on drives is a revelation. Maybe the epiphany hit maybe not, but Jalen gets any look he wants on a court. If he can operate more inside the 3pt line and provide that gravity as a willing passer its a game changer.
