I noticed in the Vanessa interview that he did NOT seem to like her G League question. It seemed like his mood changed after she asked him about that.
The fact is he is for sure not the only consistent shooter. Remember how many 3pts he missed when the season just started? and got him down to the G league. To be fair, I am not against him, I am just against his post-game attitude today. I definitely think he deserves more minutes. I can see his frsutration on the bench and I feel sorry for himbut it is what it is. May be I just prefer players with a more mature mindset, and again, I am also aware that he is only 20, so this kind of interview happen for a reason, just hope he can continue the good work.
Reed has played like I won't say shet, but not good NBA basketball and he was in the rotation most of the time. Of course there is some priorities ......Cam is best used on a weaker and worse team, the writing was on the wall but he has to stomach thru hardship. That is fine if he is not happy about it, because nobody has to fake smile.......if he doesn't feel it. But it should not become a distraction.
He is only 20. He can say it was misunderstood and stay here or be one of the early pieces of the next rebuilding team that gave us their star player.
The biggest difference is really draft position and room for error allowed by the org. The Rockets have chosen the consensus best pick available, and then let those top picks play through their issues due to draft position and not based on skill or work ethic. Jabari was shooting like 15% from 3 to start the season, he continued to get the start and had a chance to play through it, he's gotten this opportunity over and over again and it will likely help him develop into a good NBA player. Jalen has been given more opportunities to play through his struggles than any player in the league. Jalen's attitude in year 2 was actually really awful, he was calling out the coaching staff and was starting every game too (he and I believe KJ mentioned how they were using him incorrectly). The org did not bench Jalen for this. You can not say that Jalen has more patience when he was allowed to say things to the media and has got to start every single game hes been available since being drafted. If anything, Jalen has been given more patience by the org. Reed has played so badly and has gotten rotation minutes. Cam actually had so many interviews last season where he was starting to say the right things, and he is kept on the shortest leash this season. I love Cam, but I don't think Ime is the guy to develop him, I think he can learn to be a star if given the chance. There is no reason they should have waited for injuries to 2-3 rotation guys to even let him sniff the court.
Like I understand 10 pages for criticising analysing disectionjng his performance court. But post game interview?
Not all that surprising. Ime gave Reed so much playtime this season completely unwarranted. It's clear Reed should be in the g-league until he fixes his issues. Then you send Cam down in the G-league, ofcourse he's gonna feel some way about it. Cam's only getting minutes now because Amen and Tari are out so if a trade isn't on the horizon, then we might have some issues in the locker room.
the prospects for Cam aren’t very good here in Houston. Tari and Amen are just better basketball players, period. Jalen Green is also improving, but besides, Stone will never admit he reached for JG at #2 and $105M/3yr, so we’re stuck with him. The only potential prospect is if Dillon regresses somehow to ‘last-year-in-MEM-Dillon", but that”s a remote possibility, he’s been great for us.
I have hoped he would not pout until his 3rd year but that was wishful thinking on my part...... We should weather the storm this year and deal with it during the offseason. I would think there are ways to let his camp know that it is in his best interest that he showcases himself with good performances, no matter what.
Cam's got every right to pout. Look at the way this org has treated him. Sent him down to the G-league when we needed his offensive production then let Reed get playtime without earning it. Then he sees inconsistent dudes like Jalen and especially FVV, get all the minutes they want. Jalen even gets paid 35Mil per without really earning it. Personally I'm really high on Cam and believes that if he had the opportunities Jalen had, he'd be putting up all-star numbers by his 3rd year. Unfortunately, on this team, it's not gonna happen unless we trade Jalen for a true point and decline FVV's team option.
A 23 year old Tari may arguably be better than a 20 year old Cam, but Cam is likely to have the better career. If you could only keep one, the smarter move would be to keep Cam.
I didn’t see his after-game interviews and thought he was complaining about lack of playing time from the posts here. But having seen this, it’s not even bad at all. I think he is just honest to the questions about how to increase his playing time.
LOL @ Vecenie thinking this was Cam being hard on himself….how can you draw that conclusion?! He had SEVERAL opportunities to clarify what he meant, but he knew he had to hold his tongue, so just stayed vague while airing out some frustration as well. I think we can all agree some of the frustration is warranted, but at the same time, Cam is lacking awareness, maturity and patience. You are 20 years old, on a team that’s trying to win with a defense first mentality. Just because you fly all over the court instead of staying in position doesn’t mean you are playing good defense. Look at that last play, he dribbles it off of the opponents’ foot and Aaron sprints back while he jogs. Those are the small things that matter, even at the end of a game. And you are silly with the conspiracy theories, the FVV comparison etc. FVV has EARNED the minutes he’s getting from years of experience, being a veteran, being a leader and Cam has not earned a damn thing (2 games of shooting well does not offset the rest he did). If Cam is frustrated that FVV can still play big minutes even though he misses shots then like y’all, you are missing the mark completely. Now I am frustrated with FVV on many a night as much as y’all, but Cam taking his minutes is just not even an option / in the cards. So what are we even discussing then? And the immaturity and attitude issues we all were well aware of even before this, so maybe good it finally came out for the doubters to see it for themselves once again. In the biggest way yet. I. think Ime might be pissed, sure, but I think he will try to have a good talk with him unless he’s truly all about the veterans and has no patience with him like he didn’t seem to have with Sengun nor Green. Then Cam is ****ed and might as well request a trade if he’s not willing to adjust that entitled attitude. Cam showing up to the gym early and being the last to leave, that’s the type of attitude we need from him, not this. Once he starts to put in more work than the rest, plays consistent defense, then let’s talk about getting more minutes. He should take every opportunity he can get and now he finally gets it, even though the reason is injuries, that’s the job and this was a perfect way to prove you can be out there when Tari gets back. Instead he likely ruined it with this talk. I hope his agent is the type to call him right after such an interview and set him straight, not coddle him and tell him he’s right. If not his agent, then at least his family, closest friends and or hopefully some type of mentor. I doubt at 20 and given the red flags surrounding him at the draft that he has the right guidance in his life. Even if he does, he might be too immature to listen. In any case, if he keeps this attitude, he won’t be here for much longer and will be lucky to have a career that’s longer and more fruitful than Wafer’s. Cam needs an adjustment, that’s for DAMn sure.
These stats don't really mean anything cus of opportunity. They don't let Cam do this but who's to say he can't be better considering in isolation this year Jalen has been the worst player in the NBA. I will say Jalen has improved the last few games.
Just came here to say: 1) 20 yr olds say stupid things if you record them. They'll give him a lesson and move on. Can't believe he complained about minutes after getting minutes. 2) Cam has not outplayed a single player on the roster this season except a rookie - every single guard on this team is a better defender and all except Reed have a higher TS% and assist rate. You know and I know we're in Phase 2, which should be different than Phase 1. In Phase 1, we would push minutes for him even if he's struggling a bit we'll show a little faith. So if you are going to act 1% more serious than Phase 1, then there's no logic to rewarding Cam in phase 2. It doesn't matter which year of his career he's in. This is where the team is at, and minutes should be won now even though others in the past did not necessarily earn theirs. The organization shifted strategy. 3) No one on this roster is starting for development. Green is simply better than Cam and Reed when taking the whole game into consideration (defense, driving, ft's, rebounding, shooting, etc). FVV is better than Holiday and Reed and has an elite asst/to ratio while playing defense and making open shots. Brooks is an ALL NBA 2nd team defender shooting 38% from 3 and STILL he's starting to get outplayed by Amen. Jabari is our best PF and Sengun is our best C. I don't know what story you concocted in your head but it smells like victim mentality and whataboutism. Amen and Tari out here playing 25-28 minutes and Cam fans want to jump ahead of the line complaining about minutes? No dude. Read the room Cam. Put your head down, work hard. The starting SG is struggling, you should be on your best behavior while that job is available.
He won't go hard on defense. Why? Cam Whitmore has a broken leg since High School. There is a reason he won't go all out. He has a Rod, Plate, Screws. Long Length of playing time is limited with Cam. He has to fix his mindset, listen to Ime and keep quiet.
