Sounded like fireworks going off but was that actually the battery on fire doing its thing? Or, was he a suicide firework bomber?

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly.
All that shrapnel plus batteries can make this pretty nasty even with fireworks. Thoughts and prayers on a new year.

Obviously not connected. The symbolism of a Cyber truck on fire in front of a Trump hotel is completely different from a mass casualty terrorists attack. This also seems like a form of self immolation which is an act of protest.
