Compare him to Jabari 34 college games Attempted more than 5 3’s 15x And more than 10 FGA 29x Shooting .333 or less from 3 13x I say that from that sample size we have a much better idea of what type of player he would / could tend to be in the NBA Reed attempting 8 shots a game is nothing more than a crapshoot at #3 We should of drafted Edey but was worried about how that would make Alpi feel..
He has shot 68 shots or 47% of his college attempts. So you think his college is legit sample size but making almost half of those shots in the NBA is not a legit sample size? Its not like both samples cant be true, lots of good college shooters sucked in the NBA ala Jimmer Freddette. Not sure if these sample numbers are reliable but if you think college sample is enough to cement himself as a good college shooter his atrocious NBA sample should also be relevant. Its not like he will magically become much better in the next two months.
Shouldn't a professional sports team with access to millions know this? I told them over and over. The Rockets were forced into drafting Reed. No other team in the top 5 were never even mentioned in the same sentence as draft and Reed Sheppard. Reed Sheppard is not a lottery type talent. I told you, his type of skillset can be had in the second round. Now my guy Devin Carter is about to come in and burn that rookie ladder down.
Zack Edey a Backup for Alperen Sengun. Top PG do struggle out of their Rookie Year. Reed drafted as a Freshman
Jabari was his team's go to scorer. Reed led his team in assists. Very different roles. He was not drafted just for his shooting. I see a lot of posts stating that as if shooting was the only thing good about Reed. He was a good passer and good defender in college.
Disagree, he was mentioned on the Spurs. Would've been a scary situation, Reed Sheppard and Victor Wembanyama shooting 3s against the Rockets. The Rockets needed to keep Reed Sheppard away from the Spurs. The had 2 picks after Reed Sheppard. Traded one of the picks away after being disappointed Reed Sheppard didn't fall to them. If Reed Sheppard is liked by the Spurs, Reed Sheppard will be really Talented.
No, the post I replied to claimed that his college shooting sample size was too small to be trusted. It's so funny that people like you already write him off as a shooter on less than half the sample size. Jabari was a good shooter in college with 5.5 3pt attempts per game. He shot 5 a game in his NBA rookie season at 31%. A lot of people wrote him off as not as good as advertised. He then jumped to 36% at the same volume in his second year. Now they are doing the same write off with Reed. People never learn.
And I told them Curry took 9.7 three's a game on the average during his 3 years of college. One knows what you are getting from college Steph Curry. Reed might be a one hit wonder. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/stephen-curry-1.html
Reed needs to start a brawl if he wants to establish his place in the lineup. Ime doesn't like soft guys.
The difference is Jabari is 6'10. Sheppard is 6'1. Jabari at 35% 3 pt is very valuable because he is a stretch PF. Sheppard shooting at 31% or even 35% he is just a replacement level player even worse than Holiday. It goes back to what you expect from a top 3 pick. For me if I wait a year for a worse version of Holiday how is that a success? He has to be a lot better than Holiday before you tell others they never learn. We can pay Ty Jerome Sheppard's 10M salary next year and he will give us 38% 3 pt shooting. Whats the point of waiting for Brickpard to grow up if he is just on that level?
My point has nothing to do with which player is more valuable. I am talking about good college shooter struggling in his rookies season is nothing new. Making conclusive judgment in less than half of a season is just silly. I know you for some reason hate Reed Sheppard and you spend a lot of energy in this thread to throw crap on him. That's fine. Nothing will change you mind. I've been on this board long enough to know this phenomenon. Just about every player there are blind lovers and blind haters.
It’s kinda weird, the ones who hate him REALLY hate him. He’s the first prospect where it feels like people actively hope he fails. Even the biggest jalen haters would be happy if he succeeded but with reed it doesn’t feel that way.
I do not see it that way......with Jalen I acknowledge that the ball club invested too much to just let him go easily.....off the hook so to speak. With Reed it is not as simple, he was drafted when the Rockets were already above 0.500 and becoming good....... It is harder for him and he is not even a top scorer level of talent. At least I don't have the time or the stamina to actively root for him to fail, it does not benefit me, I did not bet for or against him....... This is actually the first time in a very long time I am neutral on a player.........I just think he is too small and the odds are a little against him but nothing he cannot overcome.....we have to develop patience. Do I think there were better draft options, of course, but that is moot right now.
I wanna throw a name out there that is forgotten around here. Nick Johnson, obviously a much lower pick but I feel he could have been an NBA player. (even had a Playoff run in his only year) Nephew of Dennis Johnson, the Celtics legend and champion. Similar size and position of play are purely coincidental. He did go on to become a G League champion not with RVG but the Austin Spurs unfortunately....... and travelled the basketball world.......still only 32.
Like how they liked Joshua Primo? Brickpard cant shoot 3s here dunno how you think he is gonna shoot 3s in San Antonio.
Nah you got people mocking Jalen for putting up 30 just cuz its against a bad team. Brickpard you have people beating their chest and calling people out when he has 6 pt game. Thats the difference. When Brickpard gets 1 rebound, you already have his dickriders tagging me and calling out everyone who said anything remotely bad about Brickpard. The standard for him is absurdly low he just coughs on the court and people crown him player of the game and attack everyone who isnt on the kool aid. When you have glazers trying to normalize 3 pts per game and 45% TS like its normal for a top 3 pick to put up those kinds of nos, of course any criticism of Brickpard will seem extreme.
