Darnold can move some. More about making throws on the move. He threw an absolute dart on the run to JJ yesterday
The thing I was impressed with CJ last year was throws on the run and ability to evade some pressure. He was very poor in college in these aspects. This year is closer to his college tape in that aspect. He just happens to be under pressure a lot more than he ever has.
Where the eff is Jerrod Johnson to spot and correct/coach this up with CJ? This is fundamental stuff that can be fixed quickly, akin to a pitcher who corrects his mechanics between starts.
Man, I must remember things differently than others. I thought CJ was running for his life last year as well. I better go get some Prevegin.
When DCs spot tendency in tape to gameplan and neither the QB or OC have an in game contingency you're cooked. Im wondering if the Shanny system is on borrowed time without a major revamp? Seems like most of those offenses have had a nominal year compared to past success. Brian Flores has the blueprint thats for sure.
DC's were following the college scouting reports on CJ. That was a mistake. CJ was much better against pressure with single high safeties. This year, defenses were playing more 2 High Safeties to stop the deep play ball by the Texans. The issue is Slowik didn't adjust the playcalling and route concepts.
CJ was dodging for his life yesterday - parts of the pockets were always collapsing but there were other clean parts or open areas to step to. He didn’t run much, but moved around a lot. This year it collapses much quicker (sometimes instantly) and from multiple sides. At the same time, I don’t see him moving nearly as well, or when he does he isn’t making the snap decisions. Some combination of shell shock and probably injuries.
Slowik makes ZERO adjustments and then you take into account that the O Line cannot do what there being asked, there simply not good enough. YOu keep hearing Demeco say, "we just have to execute better", well no kidding but it's like asking me to recite quantum physics, you can teach it to me, but doesn't mean I will be able to do it..............the bunch formations do not work, the quick screen does not work, the only speed we have is Nico, Schultz forgot how to block. This offense is broken and needs a rebuild from the ground up, Tunsil grades well in the pass game but he is not a captain and while I won't call him soft, I will say he is no leader, and his attitude rubs off on the others, I start with him and jettison him to send a message that we will not tolerate that type of play, I don't care how well you grade out. I "think" we could get a good draft pick and then rebuild through the draft and free agency. The offense is the biggest failure under Demeco and he MUST right the ship, I was listening to 610 on the way in to work and this debate about who we should play in the first round is almost funny.............IMO we are the worst team heading into the playoffs and its not even close. I love this team and I will be there to cheer, but my positivity went away weeks ago
I get that Slowik isnt awesome, but a lot of us were comparing Stroud to Burrow.. Hes done insanely better and has a worse OLine.
Agreed, we shared a lot of the same concerns pre-draft. It looks like he isnt able to handle pressure after all, and it has affected his accuracy which was his best attribute...
Hope you're wrong, but if he plays the way he did this year do you re-sign him when DM comes calling in the 2025 off-season?
The OL has been protecting CJ pretty well since Fisher took over at RT and Howard at LG. There were receivers open last game. Also dont look at sack stats because CJ's developed the Carresque ability to run out of bounds behind the LOS for sacks. It's just as infuriating now as it was then.
