Or some guy like Sundar Pichai, CEO Google, who started on an H-1B and is one the highest paid execs in the world, earning $226 Million in 2022 while laying off, at least, 14,000 American workers over the past 2 years. Pichai's stock awards are received every 3 years. In 2019, he received compensation of $280 Million.

His earnings alone would be the equivalent of those 14,000 workers earning a salary of 160K-200K a year to provide for their families. Insane.

There is not an excess in full stack devs but it’s at a level where it’s not hard to fill a position. The key differentiator is experience. A good lead dev is worth their weight in gold. And a good dev will leverage AI.

AI sucks for in-depth work. I was using ChatGPT premium yesterday to assist in designing some electrical work and about an hour in it started forgetting items I told it to factor.

There is absolutely a glut of ‘Project Managers’ because that’s a relatively new career set and not very well defined or understood by most executives. Anyone can be a ‘PM’ but good, effective PMs are much like lead level devs- they not only know how to properly frame a project, they have the experience to recognize issues and most importantly, the good ones have good people skills. And that’s something that AI can never replicate. Complex projects benefit from experienced PMs.

I see AI engineer jobs and while they pay very well, they typically get filled fairly fast. It’s a lot like these other jobs though- experience is king.

Hard work is absolutely in a deficit in this country. Something may be simple but it can be hard. Example- ditch digging. It sucks. It’s simple but it’s hard AF.

Illegals are coming in and filling those hard, dirty work positions that citizens turn their noses up at.

Highly skilled positions that can be filled with H1-B visa holders pay much less than market in many cases. That’s why these corporate types love them.

 

Not exactly sure of your thoughts on it, but I think a very large percentage of Americans, no matter their political persuasion, would...or should agree on this issue; and it doesn't matter if the H-1B holder turned billionaire CEO is a white South African or a brown Indian.

How many billions in free $, subsidies, tax credits, etc. has Elon Musk benefitted from and received from American taxpayers and the U.S. government? We the American taxpayers made the man. Without us, he would have failed at making Tesla into a successful company. What has he done to repay us? Telling us to go "f*ck ourselves in the mouth?" He should be forced to repay the billions he took in handouts, instead of donating a comparatively paltry pittance of $250 Million to the Trump campaign, becoming a de facto authoritarian.

As someone who has built a career in IT, I can say....There are too many H1B workers that are taking jobs away from American workers, and there are plenty of talented IT workers.
