IMO, Fox would make Jalen completely irrelevant and more useless than he already is. Also IMO, Fox would make FVV irrelevant. On second thought: Jalen coming off the bench might work. He could hopefully develop into the Malik Monk role as a bench sparkplug and second closer.
Um, no. Monk signed a 2 year contact for under 20 million. I'm not on board for keeping Jalen around as a bench sparkplug on over 34 million a year. That's just overpaying. If he's not better by the end of the season I'd rather trade him off if we can.
Look, I was just considering a hypothetical. I think getting Fox should mean getting rid of both guys which I thought was clear from the first sentence. I will be crushed if both aren't gone before next season.
the one who isn’t in the long-term plans and will probably be on the trade block trying to get rid of him ASAP since we won’t be picking up his TO: FVV
Kind of rich for my taste, but these proposed terms are a good starting point for discussions. Jalen and/or FVV must be included in a trade for Fox because having all 3 on the roster would be absolute insanity. This is where a 3rd team could be brought in.
Is there an actual want from Felicia to get this move done or is it just speculation because of the assets, team wise not Felicia.
Exactly.... Fred has to be rerouted or go in the deal. FVV was brought in to be a culture changer and receive a hefty payday to do that, Mission accomplished. Culture changed. $$$ paid. Thank you and prepare the Appreciation Thread.
I'm pretty sure Jalen can't be traded this year, but yeah, I agree it would be incredibly awkward to have all 3 on the team. I think Fox's natural position is PG, so I think if we add him then Fred has to go...it would also be very weird to bench Fred as we pay him 40mil.
yeah I think they need to first solve our horrible shooting in our starting backcourt and its too premature to give up on Reed and Cam
Personally last night was a little bit of a revelation for me. FVV isn’t getting better as a player and Green isn’t we have improving offensively fast enough. I can’t give up on Green quite yet. I do think this team is a perimeter all-star away from being a top 8 team. And I know our record says that we are that right now, but I don’t buy it. Id try to trade FVV/Eason/Reed/Landale/Tate /Future first for Fox and Monk. Sengun/Adams Smith/Brooks or Amen Brooks/Cam Green/Monk Fox/Amen
a bit too many picks for me, and ideally someone like Fred is pawned off in the deal, but if the main young players we give up are just Reed and Cam then I’d be satisfied…Cam is one of our least important young players and Reed can go, he looks 2 years away from being 2 years away then look to get rid of Jalen in the offseason and hopefully acquire a good compliment to Fox in the backcourt
I agree!! If losing Cam and Reed from our core isn’t that bad. I would like to see if having Fox would help unlock Jalen.
Why not? Let's have some fun with it. https://fanspo.com/nba/trades/WIjONlxPjiRV8S H TINE HOL IT DINE Kings in: Fred VanVleet, Tari Eason, Cam Whitmore, Aaron Holiday, 2025 Rd1 via OKC/PHX, 2027 BKN swap rights, 2029 Rd1 Kings out: De'Aaron Fox, Malik Monk, Orlando Robinson Heat in: Dillon Brooks, Malik Monk, Jock Landale Heat out: Jimmy Butler Rockets in: De'Aaron Fox, Jimmy Butler, Orlando Robinson Rockets out: Fred VanVleet, Dillon Brooks, Tari Eason, Cam Whitmore, Aaron Holiday, Jock Landale, 2 1sts, 1 swap Kings Logic (I have no idea this is for fun): Reunite FVV with Derozan, pick up solid young talent and some picks for disgruntled player, a 6th man and some depth. They can bank on their own culture shift but still have a team that may make the playoffs. Heat Logic (seriously just for fun): get rid of crybaby Jimmy Butler, get a solid defender and 6th man without giving up much at all. Rockets Logic (absolutely none): ditch FVV, consolidate young talent and veterans. Take a big swing that doesn't bog them down for extended time period. Fox - Reed Jalen - Amen - McVeigh Jimothy - Tate - Williams Jabari - Jeff Alpe - Adams/Robinson - Dante This team will only suffer a bit defensively, Butler's not what he once was and Fox isn't as good of a defender as Fred but Jalen, Jabari, Alpe are all improved, Butler is still savvy, Amen and Tate off the bench bring the energy. There's still a lot to work with, there's just an offensive balance as well. Fox is the perimeter scorer we lack, Butler can get you a bucket and Alpe can do his thing. Jalen and Jabari become like 4th/5th options, which is probably appropriate but still, this is a decently constructed lineup. They can make the playoffs, maybe even 2nd round this is a good starting line. Off the bench you have Reed with a real role and minutes so hopefully he stops the scaredy cat **** and start bombing. Amen does Amen things, Tate is your hustler. Uncle Jeff is a spot minutes guy but the veteran you want in the 4th forward role for a playoff run. Alpe hubs, Adams backs and we get another decent look at Robinson who was really solid in SL play for us this past summer. He spells Adams and is probably a little more capable than Jock. This offseason you have to offer Fox his supermax. If Jalen falters you have Reed/Amen primed for the role. Vet minimum/2 way to round out guard depth. If Jalen gets unlocked by Fox you probably just keep him and start Amen at the 3 instead because no way in hell are you resigning Butler to a max. If not you use Jalen's contract to search for a wing and let Amen fill the other spot. Tate's still on his deal, I think he's happy here honestly. That or he's extremely professional with his business. Jabari might get a 4/80 type extension like Brooks' deal unless Jabari is somehow unlocked by this setup and blows the hell up. Adams probably not resigning unless vet minimum so you have open competition between Robinson, Dante, whatever veteran you can pull in. You also have another pick in 2025 but any signings probably just in-house guys. Vets/2-ways to round out the roster. You'll get one more year of Amen for cheap before you gotta make harder choices. I mean, it could be fun. It could suck ass.
This sounds like an April Fools Day joke Sacramento Kings get: Reed Sheppard Cam Whitmore Jeff Green Jae'Sean Tate Jock Landale 2027 first-round pick swap 2028 first-rounder 2030 first-rounder 2031 first-round pick swap $9.2 million trade exception (Fox) $2.1 million trade exception (Doug McDermott) Houston Rockets get: De'Aaron Fox Trey Lyles Doug McDermott Fox, Lyle's and McDermott for all those players plus 4 first round picks? That's absolutely ridiculous. VanVleet is better than 93% of NBA players on defense. Tate's better than 76% of the players in the NBA on defense. Lansdale is better than 65% of the players on defense. Fox is better than 70% of NBA players on defense. Lyle is worse than 70% of the players on defense and McDermott is worse than 92% of the players in the NBA on defense. Half our bench, defense, and young developing players along with 2 first round draft picks and 2 first round swaps is way way too much to lose for a better shooter in Fox. Way too much.
