What the last 2 games tell me is that the Rockets don’t know how to win—at least not consistently. They really haven’t mastered closing out games. No sense of urgency. Every possession and every point counts. This last game was frustrating. 6:10 mark: Sengun jacked up a 3 with 16 seconds on shot clock. Around 5:50 next possession Sengun had a high screen from Amen then drove on Bam but just threw the ball up in an awkward and terrible shot with no angle on the basket. Next possession at 5:10 Green had Sengun on a short roll but didn’t pass it to him. Instead gave to Brooks on the corner. Missed corner 3. Next possession at 4:32 Fred dribbled into strong side short corner and was trapped. Came back out and passed to Sengun at elbow iso. Nowhere to go so passed back to Fred missed 3. Green missed a 3 after off rebound. Rockets maintain poss. But then at 4:03 11 seconds off a high screen Fred jacked up a 3 and got blocked. These 4 critical possessions illustrate the Rockets issues. Between putting up 3 pt shots early in the shot clock, not making the right read, not being aggressive in attacking the basket and a stagnant offense with no cutting or movement the Rockets offense continues to stall as they have not learned to close out games consistently.
Finally getting to watch on replay ... and also saw the box score gut reaction is blame IME for not playing Tate
Herro is 100% on point! After the way he owned the Rockets, he has every right to crow afterwards. On the court, he let his game do the talking and the Rockets had no answer. I wish he was on our team. It's gonna be a fun rematch on a Friday night in late March.
Until folks stop looking at box scores and % and actually watch the games - it won’t be clear what the glaring issue is on this team And all of it start at not having a PG who can get the team into offensive sets - specially once the first option ( Alpi ) is taken away
They should have gotten a real shooting doctor long time ago.....Sullivan is average but not great. And get an Offensive coordinator while we are it because the Offense is really stagnant at times.
That’s prob 75% of the issues the Rockets run into is when Sengun is taken out of the play as Fred sets up the half court offense. He often tries to create on the strong side then gets trapped or with nowhere to go. Then has to come back out to the perimeter doing a dribble handoff to a wing player to try to drive. The Rockets offense is so stagnant and predictable with dribble handoffs after dribble handoffs after an initial high screen and roll play or post play is taken away. Why do we have such a hard time scoring? Because a lot of our sets have our Center in the high post either screen and roll, iso dribble drive, or DHO’s with 2 guards clumped together on the perimeter. Other teams put their big in the short corner to give their guards driving lanes. They also spread their guards out wide on the wings. They also have more off ball screens and pindowns etc to free players. We don’t do this in this Sengun centric offense.
They thought he was someone from off the street stepping on the court. They toss fans for that. You can understand the confusion that they didn't realize he was an nba player....
This dude Herro was ******** pants before he got ragdolled then talks **** in the locker room? What a ****wit
I couldn't agree more. On this homestand, these guys need to get in the gym and the film room and think about working the ball, getting good shots, and time management. This throw-it-up-and-get-the-board scheme is hopeless against veteran teams that will do their work on the glass.
Reed Sheppard should be shooting like Herro......unfortunately he is still a non factor....hopefully he comes around. 41% from 3 is not bad.
So. We have two related issues. The officiating tonight was ridiculous, and FVV had another rough night. Related because it seems like the officials have held a grudge against the Rockets ever since FVV got himself ejected and went off on them the last time. There is no way he should have been ejected tonight, but he's on the **** list and it showed. I don't think this team will be on the right side of many close calls anytime soon.
