There’s no upside to getting fox, that’s my biggest issue. We know with 100% certainty he is not and will not be a top 20 player, so can say with 100% certainty he will be a bad contract on a 30% max. I think we should take the risk and save the assets for a big fish. If it doesn’t happen, that sucks, but the opportunity cost is basically zero since we know fox isn’t a guy.
Correct. He was not eligible for a 4 or 5 year deal. His goal is to make 3rd team all nba because enough guys will miss the 65 game limit and get a supermax.
No, Fox is a below average shooter. That’s just a fact, I don’t know how you can disagree with statistics. Fred is below average too. Reed is a rookie. If the foundation involves Sengun and Amen, we need shooting out of every other position. Especially the backcourt.
Yes I know that's exactly what I said. I'm responding to the guy saying Fox turned down 4 and 5 year extensions, which is nonsense. It's not even in doubt people. Fox was never signing the 3 year extension while still eligible to qualify for the supermax. Nobody every does. Jaylen Brown didn't. Siakam didn't. etc. It's an extra 50 million dollars. No agent would let you do it. The point is Fox will be getting a max extension wherever he goes if he doesn't get the supermax with SAC this season. Trading for him means spending the PHX picks + young players to make that commitment. Klutch would block the trade otherwise, or he'd just walk to LAL or MIA the next summer. $230M/4 yrs for the age 29-33 seasons of an athleticism dependent guard who at his athletic peak right now is the ~6th-11th best PG in the NBA.
I'm waiting for Amen to be put in the starting Pg role and then deciding what SG or Forward we need. Jalen plays really good when Amen is on the court without FVV, so he might be the SG.
Well there's never been a player at his level to get a 30% max and have it not be a bad deal. Historically, every single one was a disaster. I suppose 100% is not fair because there's always a chance things change. Maybe fox becomes a 40% 3 pt shooter randomly and then the deal is maybe ok. If i was forced to bet though i would say it's maybe a 1-2% chance that his deal ends up being something a team will be happy with.
To me there are 3 main targets. Jokic because denver is a complete shitshow who has cheaped out every chance they got, Shai because he probably won't be in OKC forever, and Ant b/c the wolves long term have no hope.
If you want Fox you have to consider if you’d still want him when he’s shooting at 40% from the field and 29% from 3 because that’s exactly what’s going to happen if he comes to us. I’d only want him if it means we don’t give up too much more than FVV and draft fillers, and would not want to give him the contract he’s after. Fox is the face of the “relies on athleticism scoring point guard” and we all know how that goes when they get to their 30s.
That's my list as well, except I'd add Giannis for the right price. Jokic's not going anywhere. He doesn't care about basketball. He said it's just a job to him. He loves his European home and would move back in a minute. What Northern European would move from Denver to Houston?
I agree. I feel fairly confident Amen will be a star. I also think that he will become the point guard, but that he almost needs to be the second best ball handler, and passer in the lineup if that makes sense? I think waiting on Giannis or Jokic is almost a lost cause. Although I do think that you can pursue building a young team like we are doing and hopefully creating an environment where one of these top players will force themselves into it.
He's just trolling, he plays nba and national team ball, hardly misses games, has worked his ass off to get into great shape and have insane stamina. Giannis also ya but i still have concerns about how well he will age and how awful he fits with sengun.
Lots of people work hard at their job. Why would he force his way to Houston, which is the only way we get him. Why would he even want out? Denver would trade Murray and re-structure their roster before they would trade a multiple MVP who won them a championship. It is the biggest pipedream on this site. Ant and Lamello ( who is hurt) are more realistic. Giannis is more realistic if the Bucks aren't competitive this year. Let's see where would a Greek/Nigerian rather play Houston or Milwaukee?
I'm not saying it's likely, i'm just saying it's possible he gets upset about how awful their organization has been to him. We'd be in a good position since have a dollar store version of jokic plus lots of picks.
There will be other players that become available, as a front office you have to do a little bit of leg work and be forward thinking to get that player though, you can't just sit on your hands and take the consensus pick in the draft every single year. There were rumors of SGA being available for #2 pick in 2021, the Heat had Tyler Herro in the dog house for a season and it looked like his career was spiraling and he was available at the time, guys like Haliburton become available, the Rockets trade for James Harden from OKC was not really on league radars, this 2025 draft is also deep so you have players that you can do your diligence on and try to move up to get in the draft, or you look for teams looking to revamp their rosters due to the amount of draft picks coming in. There are 5 teams that own 62 first round draft picks in the next 7 years, and the Rockets are in that group. We don't need to be like the Lakers and try to go after any big name that is in rumors, we should be smarter than that.
