Is it possible to acquire DeAnthony Melton already since he got traded by GSW? He should be cheap imo. Something like Jock+pick Would be a solid defensive backup 1 and spot 2 minutes.
Won't work until the off-season and then you would be paying for 1 year of Fox and giving up two starters and a very valuable draft pick. You couldn't even trade him at the deadline and get anywhere near comparable assets. if you try to do that trade this year, Sacremento would have to find throw in several other guys to make the salaries work.
I see this mentioned all the time here. But, the Rockets can't trade their 2025 pick or the Suns' 2025 pick this trade deadline. This is both because the rockets have given swap rights to OKC (unlikely to convey) and they traded the 2026 pick already (to OKC) so the Stepien rule prevents them from trading picks in back to back years. They can however wait till the summer and trade the player selected in the 2025 draft. I expect this to be the most likely outcome. Jalen + 2025 pick + another asset or 2 will likely be the deal and it will be better than most teams will offer for these fringe all stars and good starter level players.
Are you sure about this? I’m fairly sure swaps don’t implicate the Stepien rule. https://www.sportsbusinessclassroom.com/how-teams-get-around-the-stepien-rule/
Teams are going to have to start letting go of players in the off-season. There are many teams in cap hell. Our best bet is to let FVV walk, trade Jalen if he hasn't improved and sign 20-25m FA's that can shoot.
I'm just glad our trade scenarios nowadays don't involve scrubs and journeymen.. There was once a time when our veteran armchair GMs would send late 1st rd picks for the likes of Thomas Robinson and JeMychal Green.. Times have changed lol..
OKC has our 2026 pick if it doesn’t land top 4. Swaps don’t matter you’re right. But because there is a (high) chance we convey the 2026 pick, the Stepien rule means we can’t trade the 2025 pick. We would need a 100% certain 2026 pick in order to trade a 2025 pick. The biggest trade package we could put together right now is 4 FRP’s. After the draft it would be 6.
Oh that’s really interesting. I didn’t think about that as a consequence of the Nets’ trade for the Suns’ picks. One way around that — get a 2026 FRP in a three team deal.
It looks like the Kings are going to try to keep Fox “happy” and I don’t think they will look to trade him this season. I think they will try to trade for DFS but I don’t think the Nets will be interested in Huerter. Should the Rockets get involved by sending expiring contracts to the Nets? HOU IN: Huerter SAC IN: DFS BKN IN: Jeff Green & Landale or Tate Would the Rockets have to send draft compensation or receive it? I think the Rockets won’t make a big move this season. I think the most likely scenario is that they stand pat. But if they do make a trade then it will be to consolidate a couple of the expiring contracts into a contract making around $20m/yr and is under contract for next season as well. This can help facilitate a trade next season without breaking up the core 7 or sending Dillon out. Another person I could see them targeting in the $20m/yr range is Bogdanovic from ATL, but idk if ATL will be looking to trade him this deadline.
I appreciate this thought... I would tweak just a little BRK: Landale (HOU) + Tate (HOU) SAC: DFS (BRK) + Keon Johnson (BRK) HOU: Huerter (SAC) + Ellis (SAC)
The rockets can still send swap rights out for the 2025 pick but that is of limited value to most teams we would be trading with. The Kings or a similar team will likely finish below the rockets and at best in a similar range to the Suns. So, swap rights wouldn't be that useful since they're not likely to use it. Swap rights primarily have value in years far in the future when a team is aging, rebuilding, or in a tough cap position.
