I guess you need to compare how many posessions + FT the Rockets are getting comparing to the opponent team. Also, how does opponent's numbers & percentages look like when playing against the Rockets. %10 of 200 is still bigger than 13 % of 150 in the end. But i agree, this team is not ready for the playoffs yet. It will be a first or second round exit this year or i would be really suprised.
Sengun is doing really well on defense, defensive, rebounding, and boxing out. He is expending a lot of effort. He doesn’t seem as creative or quite willing to pass the ball this year. I am not sure if the issue there is schematic, or he just lacks confidence in his shooters, which would be fair. there needs to be more cutting around him. He has been fine. He is just struggling a little bit with length around the rim and when the double team hits quickly. He’ll get better.
... and who he plays against. The on/off stats have a lot of noise, especially for players with spot minutes. That said, playing Sengun 40+ minutes on the second night of a B2B is suicide.
Not committing to this theory, just posing it, is it because when you do that, you’re pushing everyone (teammates) to the perimeter and it’s hard to find cutting lanes without impeding/bringing a man towards Alpi as he (likely) spins. The defense will collapse and Alpi will make the “right” play and pass to the open shooter — problem is, we don’t have many shooters. So they’re okay with Alpi kicking out to the corner for an Amen three. I’m just guessing and will look to see how defenses play Alpi from the top with spread offense. 5 flat or whatever they call it.
