Ah yes, a guy who isn't good enough to start on a 10 win team.... Also, the Rockets CURRENTLY lead the league in rebounds and are 3rd in the league in defense.... while the Blazers with Clingan's "skill" off the bench are 20th in rebounds and 27th defensively.
I don't know how you say he isn't near as good as Holiday. Holiday is in his 8th year, and isn't doing much better than Reed in scoring, and Reed has more blocks and steals even if you count for the difference in minutes. Sheppard ASST/TO 1.3 / 0.6 (12.1 min) REB 1.4 / BLK 0.4 / STL 0.5 / PTS 3.6 Holiday ASST/TO 1.2 / 0.3 (9.4 min) REB 0.9 / BLK 0.1 / STL 0.2 / PTS 4.2 If you adjust the difference in minutes he actually blocks and steals as well as Amen and has a better ASST/TO ratio. Plus, Amen has an extra year of experience. He's not as bad as people make him out to be, and once he gets more experience and confidence I think he can be really good as an overall player and point guard in the future years. Amen should replace Brooks down the road, but I'd prefer Reed replace Fred. Ime sees something in Reed, and my guess is his court vision, IQ, maturity, passing skills, and defense. I'm not against a stint in the G-League to get him more playing time. I think it will do him good in getting more experience shooting. Thompson ASST/TO 2.2 / 1.9 (27.3 min) REB 7.0 / BLK 0.8 / STL 1.2 / PTS 11.9 Sheppard ASST/TO 1.3 / 0.6 (12.1 min) REB 1.4 / BLK 0.4 / STL 0.5 / PTS 3.6
Unless he just forgot how to play basketball between Summer League and the season proper, it’s all in his head. Haven’t seen this level of deer-in-headlights since Jerry Lin and Luther Head. G-League and only let him back if he’s averaging 25ppg.
Supposedly he still is thought of highly around the league. If Reed is that far gone, then he should be traded.
Is 1.25 seasons as Rockets HC enough time to make a definite statement on how well Ime and his team develop talent on one of the youngest teams in the NBA?
Trying to say 1.25 seasons versus 10 seasons is a straw man argument regarding player development. Why not just make that firm determination after 2 or 3 seasons here, especially since a lot of the younger players have improved since Ime and his team have been here.
All I'm saying is that for all the posters who are harping on that he was a mistake pick, cannot play, or has a ceiling of 6th man/fringe rotation player, etc.; the optimal solution would be to trade him well before the rest of the league realizes that. If they aren't for trading him, then their critiques ring hollow.
In Jalen's 3rd game in the NBA he showed that he can play NBA basketball when he scored 30 against the Celtics. Reed has shown what exactly, other than he can't contribute.
You can say based on rotations now. Like a lot of head coaches, ime's only interest is winning regular season games now, not in looking at the big picture or for the future
The Rotations criticism is very reasonable. I'm hoping a playoff run helps him improve at that. It shouldn't come to that, but it is what it is.
Which is funny given that despite his shot not falling, by some metrics he's still better than Jalen was in his first 2 seasons. I know, I know, the only thing casuals can see is volume scoring.
I even get it from his perspective even if i don't agree with it. One thing Pop always did was make sure he found time to develop his young guys because they needed the depth for long seasons and long playoff runs. Not every coach looks that far ahead
I'm not talking about the shooting. I'm saying the other things like assists per turnover, steals, and blocks aren't bad compared to some of the other bench guys who have played a year. Yeah, his shooting has got to be way way better, and maybe a few games here and there in the G League can give him more needed playing time to work on it. I think he needs that right now. All I meant was he has other skills that are promising.
we’re just giving him token minutes atp almost as if someone is forcing Ime to get him out on the court every game Ime will oblige unless it’s an important game like the Cup games against the Warriors and the one in Vegas against OKC where he got zero PT
