The difference with Cam is that you don't have to project that he can physically compete and dominate at the NBA level.
He had a great game against the pelicans. 27 points on 16 shots. He actually passed the ball a little. Got one assist I think from a cross court pass to the corner but he was much better compared to last year. Hungry cam is best. When he loses interest his game goes out the window.
Yeah there was pass out to Cam from Sengun off an offensive rebound and he started dance with the ball with his tunnel vision with Reed right next to him wide open. Sengun yelled and directed him to pass to Reed. lol if Sengun doesn’t point it out to Cam I doubt he makes the right basketball decision. I was sitting watching her game with sister and she was laughing at that play too saying “cam plays like you and you friends did in high school at the court. It likes yall have no peripheral vision the court. That white boy was wide open less than 10 feet from Cam and I don’t think he noticed it at all”
I’m not surprised at all by his level of production. You have people here trying to gaslight me into thinking cam was awful and that he shouldn’t get any playing time especially over Sheppard.
Cam WAS awful. He was 1/21 from long range and wasn't doing anything else right either. Body language was also bad. Now that he's snapped back into form (and added some restraint and better decision-making on offense), time to give him his 20-25 mins and see what he can do the next 50 games.
Yeah, with cam it was the attitude and body language that had me concerned. Young man really is in a great situation if he can just put his head down and do the work.
It was a six game sample size, it’s not like he was going to shoot that bad all season. He shot 36% from three last season. I’ve seen worse for longer stretches from Jabari and Green but they were top 3 picks so they’re going to get more opportunities to play out of the slump.
At the same time, you also didn't need to project Sheppard making 3s at the NBA level too. That part, for all his struggles, should not be in question even if he never lives up to his lofty #3 draft position.
The difference is Cam is also an extreme black hole. When his shot isn't falling and he starts forcing it, it really ****s us up.
I can’t believe you mentioned cam as nothing more than just a throw in in these hypothetical trades for fox.
Im a fan of Cam Maggette. Point a minute players don’t grow on trees. It’s finding the right role for the player and anyone who can fill up the bucket like that is primed to be a quality sixth man. I’m done with the minutes going to Sheppard. He’s a pg and needs to go down to the valley to sharpen his skills. I’m hoping Ime finds a way to keep getting cam minutes once Brooks and Tari are back.
The guy is the 25th youngest player in the nba. It would be criminal to give him up when he is obviously going to be a 20ppg player or better in the nba.
Crazy how much hate he gets because people don't like it's presumed "attitude ". Does he go around smiling from ear to ear? NO... But i certainly wouldn't either if players i know I'm better than are getting more minutes. He has a no fear attitude of a star player and from what I've seen, can back it up with his scoring. Something the Rockets sorely need.
Cam just needs minutes man. He's not the type you put in for 5 min and expect him to hit a couple 3s without rhythm. He's so young still so he has the benefit of the doubt and he's never got consistent minutes, especially now with Reed in the roster (who really should be in the G-league). Part of me thinks Stone knows what we have in Cam so maybe they are limiting his minutes so we don't have to pay too much for his extension. If we can keep him for a long friendly contract, he would be an amazing backup plan in case Green's contract doesn't pan out.
I really hope the Rockets aren’t using his improved play just to showcase him and ship him off. Or if they are, better be getting someone like Ant back. Not for a 30 something. I think it would be a mistake at this point, given his age. He has a high ceiling and with proper coaching and hopefully as he learns more about being a team player and matures mentally, he could become a superstar. Even with the pre-draft concerns, hard to think he wouldn’t have gone #1 this past year. He probably should’ve gone #5 in his own draft (At worst).
At 20-years old, much of basketball comes easy, super easy to Cam. But he didn’t look right in summer league and that’s not just the ball not going in for him. He had to work through the professional side of things. Going into this nice matchup with Minnesota (and Ant) we’re back where we were with Cam. Maybe he’s showing a hint more self-restraint and a greater commitment to being a threat on D. I hope we can look back at these few games as the turning point in his very bright career. Keep putting in the work Cam. The sky is the limit.
Cam needs that 3PT shot to improve a lot, when it's falling and he's concentrating with team defense he's a good player for us. Would be good to have him as a backup SG option. Perfect for slow development - he's really young and has to install habits which can take months to years of repetition. He'll become a monster of a player under Udoka if we're patient. He's at 45/34/68 splits for his career. He's definitely better than that. Lots of room for improvement and he seems to have a renewed appreciation for NBA minutes. The G League will definitely do that for you lol. Great game Cam.
