What hurts is practically every team we play has a rookie or two that show a lot more than Reed is currently showing.

The 3 point shooting is starting to get annoying, he's too good a shooter to be blowing so many shots like this.... but i feel like once he logs enough minutes to make the adjustment to the league and get more comfortable out there it'll come around

You don't get confidence at the NBA level by playing in a league that is a lower level of competition than he faced last year.

Perimeter shooting is such a mental thing, a confidence thing. My hope is that when they begin to fall, his confidence will improve, thus improving the shooting more... Like a self perpetuating cycle. The dark flip side to this is a Nick Anderson type situation.

All he needs is a couple of good shooting games and those percentages will go way up. It might look worse than it actually is because of the low volume. But, it doesn't look very good. He has good form, quick hands on defense, good instincts, decent athleticism, enough raw talent to make you think he could come around, but he's got to start hitting some shots. If he can't get that going he has no future in the NBA. I do think the shot will come around, but it is starting to get worrisome. I think the G League would be good for his confidence if nothing else. Assuming he can shoot there....

Am I crazy here or are people just scared to say the obvious? After watching him in NBA play now for a few months against NBA sized players it just seems so obvious that the guy is just too damn small to play in the NBA??

I’m not a Reed “hater” either. I love the guys game and he just seems like a good dude that’s easy to root for. But it was obvious to me in the draft and summer league and preseason that he’s just too small for the NBA. He’s not a generational talented PG like Nash or Stockton even though he has great skills. Still not the same. Too damn small and all of that skill is moot when you are a boy playing with men.

He definitely needs to get stronger, which I think he will as he gets older with NBA-level training. However, I'm also worried about his quickness, which is harder to improve. I see him out of position defensively on cuts and drives. Combine those two things, and it's just too easy.

I'm sure that would be disheartening news for all of the players who are smaller than him....including the highest paid player on the Rockets.

Weird that the max contract 9 year vet who gets to do whatever they want whenever they want in the court feels more comfortable chucking up 3's than the rookie who barely is ever allowed on the court for more than 3 minutes at a time.

There are plenty of good NBA players smaller than him. He's small but not exceedingly so. Small guys can do well if they have the skill and smart to play the game.

He hasn't gotten on the court for more than 3 minutes because he's getting thoroughly outplayed by Aaron holiday.

No, that's not why. It's because Ime Udoka's prime concern is getting FVV 40 minutes. Nothing else matters to him quite as much.

A competent coach would have established competent rotations early on, but that's not the kind of coach the Rockets have.

FVV is shooting 37% from the field and 29% from 3 and still rocks a higher EFG% than Sheppard. Reed simply hasn't been effective in the time he's been given.
FVV has been a problem, but the solution is more Aaron Holiday, not more Reed Sheppard (and no more stupid lineups where two of them are on the court)

When you give a young rookie highly inconsistent minutes, you are never going to get the best from them.

If Aaron Holliday is EVER the answer, the question was stupid.

A "competent coach" would be 9-20 by now instead of 20-9.

LOL, I get that you are pretty hilariously out there with your Sheppard takes, but do you genuinely think that a coach having more competent rotations would invert the record?

I mean, it comes across as merely trolling, but I guess there's a chance you are attempting to be serious....and it'll be a LOT funnier if that's the case.
