If he's not a generational shooter, there's not a whole lot of reason to have him on the floor. I really hope he's just in his head and can get over the slump. It's possible the Kentucky season was just an anomaly.
I didn’t see his games in pre season but with the time he was playing today I really can’t see much upside in him. He has vision but I dont see him doing much with the dribble, mediocre handles, he can’t really attack the basket as far as I can tell, not against starters anyway, he doesn’t have a quick first step, he can only rely on pick and rolls. I see his ceiling as a FVV, has brains is smart but mediocre in every other area, bench player at best.
I didn’t realize he was at 30% for some reason I felt like he’d be closer to low 20s with all the shots he’s been bricking
I finally noticed last night the real reason for Reed's shooting struggle. His shorts are too tight. He might want to emulate John Stockton. That's probably the worst mistake he made for his career.
An FVV ceiling sounds reasonable, and would really be pretty good. Most draft picks, even as those as high as #3, don't end up even getting to an all-star tier. FVV has not only been an all star, but also an NBA champion, and he has been a reasonably consistent ~18 and 7 kinda guy at 35-40% 3P shooting... before this season. Of course we are also severely lacking at PG outside of FVV right now (who is also struggling this year), so that proposition sounds better than it normally would at the moment. Regardless, we are 1/3 of the way into the first year of his career, and he's on a pretty good team that doesn't need him to play many minutes. It's way early to be jumping to conclusions.
reed is a better defender than jalen and kam he is a quality defender he should be getting all of jalen's minutes but cannot happen until jalen is moved reed is going to be a great player
Rockets aren't trading Sheppard for anything except a legitimate star that fits this team's window. The Rockets love him. He will be part of their future. Ime probably doesn't give two ***** about what his offensive output looks like right now.
Yeah the guy who said Sheppard is too small and will struggle in the NBA has no common sense Everyone else who said he will make an instant impact and be Cocaine Curry are the people with common sense.
So why he only playing 11 mins and gets yanked consistently if Ime loves him so much and doesnt give a crap about his offensive output? The Rockets arent trading Sheppard because you dont buy high and sell low. Doesnt mean the Rockets love him esp with the way he is playing right now. Ime loves guys who play good defense Sheppard right now is bad at both offense and defense not sure why you think Ime loves him maybe before the season started woth his intangibles but def not RN with him scrubbing it up.
If that's all you had said, fine. But when you call people "hypocrites" and attack their character, you do lack sense and restraint. Just stop the vitriol and it's all good. Take a deep breath before you hit Reply. We are all Rockets fans and constantly throwing angry bows and arrows around is pathetic. Pretending you don't and then posting the roll eyes above is exactly what you accuse others of.
Enough with the Reed experiment. If he’s not ready yet, send him down to the Vipers. Aaron Holiday is clearly the better player right now and you can sense Aaron is frustrated too.
Why do you think Sheppard plays more than Aaron Holiday? Why do you think he's not in the G League and Cam has been? Is Ime stupid?
"He will figure it out when he figures it out. We're not worried about Reed." Ime on the MT show. I think by February his minutes will go up to 17.
I think part of the reasons Cam was sent to the g-league but not Reed is that we don't have a lot of options at the backup PG spot whereas we have a logjam at the wing. Also, I suspect that Reed hits shots in practice so there's no reason for the coaches to think that he's a bad shooter. Another reason is that Reed while undersized always put in defensive effort. Anyway, I think Reed's shooting struggle is similar to Jabari's. It's all mental. When he can get over the confidence and rhythm mental blocks, his shooting will flourish.
This is the only reasonable thing to do. Whether or not he gets it together, it's in the team's best interest to give him the chance to develop. They've invested that relatively expensive rookie contract in him.
I agree that at this moment Holiday is better and you can see the frustration. I think the Rockets were hopeful that Shepperd would improve enough to be the better option by 2025 and certainly by the playoffs but that looks like a difficult trajectory for Reed as he seems to have plateaued. With the teams surprising success this year I'm ok w/ taking an L on Reed for year 1 and just putting the team in the best position to win. While Reed's development is absolutely a consideration for the organization, getting your other 3-6 quality core pieces playoff experience is collectively more important. Reed has age and pedigree on his side. Those two attributes are some of the last to be given up on by NBA teams. Here's to hoping he's a stud next year.
