I forgot what I said about the signing at the time, but I mostly just thought Brooks was a typical MLE player who got more from the Rockets because they needed to overpay to get anyone. I was mostly shocked that Rockets fans were incredibly negative on his attitude when most Rockets fans were generally positive on KPJ. Not trying to be hindsight 20/20 here, but even back then, it was clear the KPJ issues were serious and Brooks' "issues" were more things you'd associate with Pat Bev type.

Count me as still not liking the signing. But he's been knocking down his 3pt shots, which adds a lot of value to him.

That's wild. I'd give him a raise if I could. He's been one of the most reliable players on the team and while Udoka deserves the lion share of credit for turning the culture around, I don't think he could have done it without Fred and Dillon. Those signings weren't just good signings, they were steals. I'm convinced we'd still be winning less than 30 games a year without them.

Would depend on what we were spending the extra $65M on. FVV is overpaid, but we need him desperately. I give Udoka by far the most credit to this team's success. They certainly did help with changing the culture. You always need vets that play hard to help young players that don't exactly buy in.

Out of all the free agent signings last year I thought DB was easily the worst (20M for a dude Lebron just humiliated, 4 yr guaranteed deal), but since the start of last season I had been extremely pleased with him.

This year his contract is a bargain, dude has been our most consistently good player.

Honestly he's had to carry a heavier load than he should. He could get to league average with slightly stricter shot selection.

We need someone to take the extra 3's though. Jabari stepping up now. I need Jalen to step up to around 36% on 5 attempts, mostly catch and shoot, way more selective. More likely we get 34% on 7-8 attempts and Udoka seems chill about it.

Surprised his philosophy is to give offensive freedom, the best offensive coaches only do that after they've set a great structure for the team. Think about MDA. He'll give the team freedom but he'll make sure the floor is spaced for them and mid range shots are banned. It's like two handicaps that set a nice minimum standard for the offense: there are 3 types of shots and we'll only take the 2 we're most efficient at.

Teams like us that are struggling need someone to really guide these guys. The young guys take a lot of dumb shots. So do Fred and Dillon. I get that there's offensive freedom but I feel the leash has gotten too long. Udoka has to ask them to have better self-discipline if that's what he's trying to cultivate.

You bringing up LeBron says it all. DB dared to challenge your idol so you thought it was a bad signing. LeBron fans are the worst.

I liked the DB signing, but thought the 4th year was us bidding against ourselves at the time. If you look at the market now, it seems like a good deal. Alex Caruso just signed a similar deal for 4 years, and he is 3 years older than when Dillon signed his deal, he is also shooting 27% from 3 and his offense is nearly non existent now. OKC paid Caruso similar money on 4 years as a bench player that doesn't score. DB is more than just a defensive specialist.

I liked the signing when it happened, but was an advocate for trading him in the off-season to free up minutes. With Tari's injury concerns and Cam's regression, I'm glad we didn't. He still has his warts, but his contract is a bargain. He came into this season in the best shape of his career and is having the best season of his career. That makes him a solid role player for us or a good trade piece the next 2 years.
