Yes. In addition to raw milk having more pathogens than pasteurized milk it also has a much shorter shelf life. As noted people can buy raw milk but it certainly should be noted that there are potentially dangerous health affects to drinking it the same way we put warning labels on cigarettes. Taxing it like liquor, cigarettes and other products that we know have potentially negative health outcomes is a way of both covering the risk and reducing the risk without outright banning the product.

This is why I’ve always said that anyone who reads Atlas Shrugged should also read The Jungle.

^^^ Not sure how that somehow disproves the efficacy of vaccinations or why someone with a brain worm is fit to lead.....

I just hope a bunch of religious extremists, hippies, and libertarians get sued when they some kids inevitably die to curable diseases. The former will probably try and cower behind religious freedom (aka no accountability).

RFK Jr has no business running the Dept of Health and Human Services. He won't be doing people any service, and will be putting people at risk by saying that populations with adequate nutrition do not need vaccines to avoid infections. That's just BS. People died of infections years before fast food, junk food, and becoming couch potatoes sitting around watching the boob tube and playing video games. People were much more fit and ate much healthier back before most vaccines, but still died of polio, and many other infectious diseases. Who made him a medical expert? The Tin Foil Hat Club?

Cig tax doesnt cover the risk. It's a dumb thing to do. Just ban them or have them legal. If people think raw milk taste better let them drink it or just ban it depending on the state like the EU does. I don't think it is nearly as deadly or costly as carcinogens in cigs or drunk driving/liver cirrhosis.

If you want to ban something or tax something that tastes good but is potentially harmful, there are a giant food companies like Nestle selling us poison that should be first in line. Not small time farmers. Most preventable diseases are cause by blood pressure/obesity. Tax being a ******.

Good to know that covering 0% of a cost the preferable option if you don't cover 100%.

0% is the current system unless those taxes are paid to cancer patients that were/are tobacco users.

I have no problem putting higher taxes on processed foods, junk foods, sodas, and candy. Obesity and diabetes are health problems too. Use the taxes from cigs, alcohol, and all that crap and put it straight into affordable healthcare for all.

They are used to cover the healthcare cost, not to repay people for smoking

The challenge is those taxes affect the poor more. Though I support them as part of a universal healthcare system.

No they just go in the general fund. Do you have a reference? Where did you hear that?

They actually go to multiple places, but it is used to help offset the cost to governments.

I understand that some processed foods are cheaper than healthy food, but bananas and oranges are cheaper than a bags of cheetos, oatmeal and bread are cheap, and homemade soups, stews, chicken, potatoes, sandwiches and such are healthier and cheaper than buying bags of chips, and fast food for the entire family. I've seen plenty of kids who eat nothing but a lunchbox of processed crap and cookies for lunch. That isn't cheap either. Many kids don't eat soup and sandwiches these days.

People eat crap because they want to, not because they can't afford alternatives.
