So the story is essentially that Tari has always been reckless and constantly getting hurt... you could just never rely on him to be smart and do the things he needed to do to stay or even get healthy.

I think what she's trying to say is that the team had to force him to sit out and fully heal because if not he'd keep playing and hurt himself worse.
