Or he's just inconsistent. Seriously, if he "can" do it with these guys, then why not in any consistency? Honestly, if he made less mistakes in other times I'd care less. He has improved defensively, but honestly if he's not scoring it seems like he's not contributing much else. No hate.
This actually surprised me, but I think it's probably because Jalen plays a lot more minutes than some of these other guys. Like Kobe for example played an entire season only taking 6 shots per game. McGrady shot 6, 8, and 13 shots per game in his first 3 seasons. So I think it's not quite the correct question to ask. Jalen going 2/13 in 34 minutes isn't the same thing as McGrady shooting 4/7 in 11 minutes.
Kings could move Sabonis if they wanted to rebuild …or throw a 3rd team into direct Alpi too … I’m fine with Alpi staying main person I want gone is FVV
Against this proposed Rockets team, they'd have them both pound Jabari at the five and foul him out by the 2nd quarter.
We do these stats all the time. I agree with patience but this graph even points it out. Which of these is not like the rest? Jalen can't shoot 3s, can't shoot midrange. Can only thrive in fast break. All of these other guys are proven killers if you give them the ball from anywhere. I remember stats brought up about Ben Simmons with groups of guys years ago, you pick a stat....certainly not shooting. People make these lists like they mean something. The most important stat is watching basketball.
Can you accept the fact that he isn't as bad as Corey Brewer? No one is saying he's Kobe. But can we have this ability called "measured criticism"? Is that possible on this board? I'm not sure.
Ben Simmons has had 6 30 point games in his career. The point is people on the board often level extreme levels of criticism without context or basis. Take your “Green can’t shoot 3 like the others in that list” critique. Green is around a .33 3 pt shooter for his career, which isn’t great, but is similar to other green players in the league like Ja, AND guys on that list. McGrady’s career 3 point numbers are pretty similar to Green’s. Same with Kobe. The point is there around a lot of reasons to criticize Green. But comparing him to Corey Brewer - and you blanketly stating he “can’t shoot 3s” - are examples of baseless and dumb critiques that reduce the level of discourse on this board.

Yes, he needs to shoot fewer 3s. But i expect much of it is Ime telling him to shoot because of our overall shooting slump.
Who compared him to Corey Brewer, I certainly did not. I simply pointed out that these comparisons are stupid. One is certainly not like the other. I agree with J.R.s post. I watch him play. We are a D oriented half court team that requires him to play off the ball. He is a ball dominant, combo guard, streaky player that relies on the fast break and cannot shoot midrange or 3 and relies on free throws. That is the counter opposite of the team as constructed. He has talent and I have preached patience on him from the beginning. If he was Cam Whitmore, great, but he is a MAX player. I cannot get any more measured than that. Do you think we should pay Reed or Cam max? Green could certainly get better but he is not a MAX player. The world should not revolve around a young player's contract is up so we have to pay him max. Tinged in your posts and Houston77's post is the frustration that this was one of our big draft picks. I get it but if he wasn't making max this would be less of a problem and he might make a great 6th man.
I agreed with J.R.'s post. Who compared him to Corey Brewer? I certainly did not. Fchowd brought up the same false argument. Your straw man doesn't work on my argument. I did not compare Green to Ben Simmons. I used it as an example of when you pull up foolish comparison charts like this, no matter what form or who, they don't make sense. Green's game is fast break and 3s with no midrange so when he gets hot or gets to the line he has games like the other night. The rest of the time he is 3 for 10 or 15 with a horrible percentage. He is not an off the ball player and has to be in rhythm with many touches to shoot well. Don't get me started on FVV's 1 for 10, 2 points BS for $43M a year. Green may get a little better on 3 years from now but do I want to be paying MAX on a player that I am hoping improves. I like to pay max for a max player. Give me Ant or Booker over Green. Green has value just maybe not to us. Our D is predicated around us being a slow it down, half court team. That is how we fit together. Green is old school Harden without the requisite level of talent. KPJ tried to play like that. I can appreciate Green's talent but probably not the right fit.
The way this team is constructed is a team that desperately needs a a go to dynamic scorer. Quite frankly there isn't a single backcourt or wing player on this roster than can have the scoring efficiency of Green with on ball reps that attack the POA opposing defense. Sorry if this sounds like a childish analogy but do you know those stamina meters in 2K? Imagine in the game options there is a coaches' setting that has a slider that adjusts the percentage of finite energy dedicated to defense vs offense and Ime has the slider almost all the way towards defense. That is Ime's philosophy. All our dudes are asked to expend a amount of energy on defense that is much higher than vast majority of demands from their players. Ime got it to work eventually in the second half of his first season with the Celtics because he had more experienced primary scorers that have been conditioned over time. People forget that younger players have less stamina than vet players. Young players are less injury prone and will have less random aches and pains than more experienced players but more experienced players have the better cardio conditioning because of years of playing 30+ minutes of NBA basketball per game for many seasons. Look at Devin Booker and Jalen Green from their second to third season. Their second seasons are quite frankly shockingly similar. Similar tanking level team to where the coaches on each respective team had no expectations to give effort on defense and have free reign on offense. And the results showed. 22 ppg for both on similar ts% at age 20 for both which is elite scoring output for a 20 year old historically in the NBA. Translated to the w/l column also with ~20 wins. So what happened between their respective 2nd and third season? The Rockets decided the Yung dudes need to experience a winning culture and the Suns decided to keep the tanking course and that showed in both Booker's and Green's respective third year scoring output and team wins. Booker averaged 25 ppg and Green averaged 20 ppg with no improvement in efficiency. But Green for the first time experienced what it actually takes to win NBA games in terms of what t takes on the defensive end and that's good for his long term progression as a player but bad for his short term offensive numbers which is bad for media and fan discourse. I wonder if the zeitgeist around Green would be totally different if Green was on a tanking team in his 3rd and fourth year like Booker where he was allowed to "cook" but not give any crap about defense? You couldn't see Green easily match Booker's third year 25 ppg numbers on around 56% ts on a 20 win level team where there is no pressure to exert energy on defense? It wouldn't be good for his long term development as a player as this route under Ime will strengthen him long term as a player but the fan discourse wouldn't be as toxic I think. But anyways it's crazy to belief Green is on this team to be a off ball role player. This team needs a dynamic guard/wing scorer and Green is literally the closest thing to that we have on his roster and he's 22. Could he fully realize himself as the dynamic guard/wing scorer after he gets used to this level of defensive effort? Hopefully. But Im telling you dude, Ime and the coaching staff would laugh at you if you tell them Green's role is to be a off ball role player. Sengun isn't the heliocentric level talent at the level of Luka or Harden that can sustain a single hub offense dedicated to one all time great offensive talent. This team needs more than one dynamic offensive player. At least on this roster current y Green and Sengun are the only ones.
