I've seen the same Stroud, the greatness and the mistakes from last year. Only thing that's changed is 22% pressure up the middle and a Slowik that second guesses himself. Wants to be this. Wants to be that. ends up being neither. Thought last year that the biggest improvement for Stroud and the offense should be the screen game. It didn't get better. The whole offense should spend their summer time with Tua. It's an art to get that 1 yard pass.
Anyone who says CJ is the problem doesn’t know what they are talking about. Give him even an average line and watch his accuracy improve. Worst offensive line in the league. CJ can’t do it all by himself. It’s a miracle that we’ve won nine games.
Fake news. Not the same QB from last year. Stroud is not the problem but a problem. He shares blame too. Throwing into double/triple coverage. Throwing at receivers’ feet. Holding onto the ball. In this game alone, the two? delay of games (getting out of the huddle). @Bobbythegreat Please pull the all-22 tape Spoiler And if Bobby returns next year? (Very real possibility; they may have a new OL coach) “but but but Bobby” for another 17 games? https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/41040723/2024-nfl-win-rates-top-teams-players-rankings Pass Block Win Rate: 56% (25th) 26. It's lazy to just blame the o line.... because when a QB is ****ing up, it leads to a lot of sacks no matter how good those o line guys are. Holding on to the ball too long, scrambling DIRECTLY into sacks, passing up open receivers to stare down one single blanketed receiver, hopping TOWARDS a schemed for free runner on a play with a pulling guard, not calling out the blitz and adjusting the blocking scheme or calling an audible to adjust the play.... These are all things Stroud has done this season that get blamed on the o line and the offensive coordinator that are 100% only on Stroud. He's just not the same quality of QB he was his rookie season. For a lot of this you have to watch the all 22 to see properly, so i understand not many will do that... but that's how false narratives get going.
How are we going to fix this offensive line? Trade a couple players off and add future picks in 2026 for a better free agent offensive lineman? Add two OL in our first two draft picks, or trade up for the best draft pick we can get? Hire a new offensive coordinator too? All those might be necessary if we want to see our passing game and rushing game take off to a higher level.
Multiple things can be true. Stroud has absolutely not been good enough this season. Yes, the oline sucks and the design/oc sucks, but stroud has not been good. On 1st and goal from the 10 today, he ran outa bounds for a 5 yard sack. What in the hell is that? That would be unacceptable in high school. I have ZERO doubts about stroud long term, i think he will be incredible. I think a lot of his struggles are because of the line/design/oc, and stroud isn't at the top of the list of problems, long term we will be just fine.
An issue in line with CJ holding onto the ball too long I’ve seen this season (and today) is CJ passing up the open guys in the short underneath routes to wait for something to develop in the middle of the field, which rarely ever does given how teams are almost always playing 2 deep safeties against CJ while keying in on Nico (and most of our receivers suck). I think this is just part of him being a young QB who’s always looking to make the big, winning plays for his team. I hope as he matures, he learns to start taking what the defense gives him; hell, that’s what made Tom Brady so damn good. Once he learns to start accepting the quick 2-3 yard completions against prioritizing the deep pass each time, he’ll be very hard to stop. He’s 100% having a down year, but so what? I still think he’s the best QB I’ve ever seen in a Texans uniform and he has barely scratched the surface. Sure, the national media (and a good amount of us Houston fans) crowned him as the next GOAT a little too quickly after his rookie season but he’s got time to develop and mature. Something to me that shows his greatness is the number of 3rd and longs he’s converted this season and last. Back in the day when we had good teams under Schaub and Watson, you knew a 3rd and long was a death sentence, but not for CJ. Tough day and tough loss for the team, I would be SHOCKED if we made any real noise in the playoffs this year but I still love the direction this team is headed in. Can’t become great if you never suffer.
He's been well protected since they put Howard at LG and Fisher at RT. Of course this hurts the run game. Once again Kendrick Green played well today IMHO.
I still see coaching as the "root cause." If fans can easily see Stroud's mistakes, shouldn't coaches be able to see them, and correct them? CJ appears to be very coachable, he is just not getting the right direction. AND, he doesn't call the plays. Maybe he should.
You aren't going to have a successful offense with those numbers. Although I expect the pass rate numbers to improve.
I expect Caserio to sign a vet OL and draft an OL. TE/WR/CB/S. I also expect the CB/S issues in FA and the 4-5th rd. What I really hope happens is Caserio goes BPA. If he does this then I expect a TE, CB, OL to be the 1st three picks.
