I would've liked to keep Breggy for the sake of continuity and just the fact of him being a fan favorite for so long... BUT if you go from Tucker and Bregman to Paredes, Walker and maaaaaaybe someone like Santander or even Profar, I think that lengthens and strengthens your lineup more than if you still had Tucker and Bregman.
Diaz, Walker, Altuve, Paredes, and Yordan w/ Pena established as a not negative bat allows you to Give Chas a chance to rebound Give Dezenzo, Leon, and/or Whitcomb a chance to show what they can do/be Keep Meyers in CF if they want his D without him ever having to hit above 7th in the lineup.
A .773 OPS against RHP while making the league minimum has value. He can DH when Yordan plays LF. Also a good insurance policy to have in case Walker or Yordan gets hurt. Makes zero sense to DFA him and have a 3rd catcher or some scrub like Kessinger on the active roster.
I thought Walker was holding out for that 4th year. I am surprised that the Yankees did not make a 3 year offer.
I could definitely be wrong with this, but what if… But if Bregman has been dragging this out to allow Astros to pull off this trade and sign a bat and hold off other teams, especially the Yankees… then resigns with the Astros
Didn't Bregman play left his rookie year? But in all seriousness, Bregman may end up Keucheled by allowing Boras overvalue him...
But with a 4 person bench you can't have 2 players who can only play 1b/DH B/U catcher and Dubon. That leaves you only 1 bench player if you have both Walker and Singleton. That's unsustainable. Especially if none of your OF have a 90+ wRC+ or can hit RHP.
How is that unsustainable when Dubon can play everywhere besides C and Paredes can play 1B, 2B, 3B and according to Nook, potentially LF?
Now that they have replaced Bregman and Tucker, I think we go cheap on the outfield. Maybe we bring back Gamel or Hayward as a LH option. Meyers will start in CF, hopefully Chaz or a prospect plays well enough to take the job from him. Chaz/Yordan in LF, RF will be the prospect position, may the best man win in camp.
Probably but maybe not. He still has value as a bench bat who can hit righties. There was a place for him when the Astros had Abreu, there’s that same role available to him now that they have Walker.
Astros should have $10M left to spend even if they don’t trade Pressly. OF options that should fit in that budget: Verdugo Winker Polanco Turner Canha Heyward Pham McCutcheon Jimenez Martinez Lineup against RHP: 3B Paredes 2B Altuve DH Alvarez 1B Walker C Diaz LF TBD RF Dezenzo CF McCormick SS Pena Bench: Dubon, Caratini, Singleton, Meyers Lineup against LHP: SS Pena 2B Altuve DH Alvarez 1B Walker RF McCormick 3B Paredes C Diaz CF Meyers LF Dubon Bench: TBD OF, Caratini, Dezenzo, Singleton Let’s ****in go.
