Serious question- am I missing something here? Even the graph says Communism yet the post says Socialism.

While communism and socialism are often distinguished in political theory and practice, there is a strong argument to be made that the two systems share fundamentally the same goals, principles, and ideological origins, making them variations of the same concept.

    1. Shared Philosophical Roots

Both communism and socialism trace their origins to the works of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. Marx envisioned socialism as the intermediate stage on the path to communism, but the foundational principles—abolition of private ownership of the means of production, class equality, and collective ownership—remain consistent between the two.

    • Socialism and communism both aim to eliminate class distinctions and redistribute wealth to create a more equitable society.

    • The transition from capitalism to socialism and finally to communism represents a continuous process rather than entirely distinct systems.

    2. Core Principle: Collective Ownership

The most significant unifying feature of socialism and communism is their opposition to private ownership of the means of production (e.g., factories, land, and resources). Both systems advocate collective ownership, whether this is controlled by the state (as in most forms of socialism) or through a stateless society (as in Marxist communism’s final stage).

While practical implementations may differ, the underlying idea remains constant: the abolition of capitalism and private property to create shared prosperity.

    3. Shared Goal: Classless Society

Both communism and socialism strive for the elimination of class distinctions. Socialism often emphasizes economic equality through wealth redistribution and state intervention, while communism seeks to take this further by abolishing the state entirely. However, in both cases, the ultimate goal is a society in which class hierarchies, exploitation, and inequality no longer exist.

    • For example, in Marxist theory, socialism transitions into communism once the state “withers away,” but both stages aim to resolve the same fundamental problems.

    4. Practical Overlap in Historical Movements

In practice, many governments and movements have used “socialism” and “communism” interchangeably. For example:

    • The Soviet Union called itself a “socialist state” yet was inspired by Marxist-Leninist communism.

    • Countries like China, Cuba, and Vietnam describe themselves as “socialist” but have roots in communist revolutions.

    • Political parties (e.g., the Communist Party and Socialist Party) often operate under similar principles and strategies, advocating collectivist policies.

This overlap in real-world implementation reinforces the idea that communism and socialism are often indistinguishable in practice.

    5. Economic Policies: Common Themes

Both systems prioritize public or collective control over economic production and reject the free-market system of capitalism. While socialism might allow for limited private enterprise under state regulation, the ultimate goal is to phase out such elements. Communism simply represents a more radical and final iteration of this process.

    In essence:

    • Socialism = Collective ownership with centralized planning.

    • Communism = Fully realized socialism with no state, classes, or private property.

    Conclusion: The Same Ideological Core

The argument that communism and socialism are the same lies in their shared roots, core values, and goals. Both ideologies seek to eliminate capitalism, promote economic equality, and abolish class structures through collective ownership. While socialism may be seen as the transitional phase and communism as the end goal, they represent different stages of the same ideological continuum. As such, socialism and communism can be viewed as essentially synonymous in their ultimate aim of creating an egalitarian, classless society.

IF Americans treated administrative roles that make decisions of where funds are going to be utilized for things like research and development as in lets say a politician appropriating funds for research into the early infrastructure that is going to be the internet today in the public sector like they do in the private sector, then the joke of "Al Gore invented the internet" wouldn't be a joke and would be a actual serious claim. The roles of a CEO like Musk is the same role as a college administrator approving the funds for a research project. In the public sector, the actual researcher, scientist, engineer etc is the one that gets credit. No one knows the administrators who approved of funding John B Goodenough's research and devel0pment towards the lithium ion battery.

That is part of capitalism brain rot. Ownership of ips, property etc is valued more than the actual humans doing the innovating

    Trump

Vows to “Knock Out the Middleman” to Bring Down Drug Costs

"The horrible middleman that makes more money, frankly, than the drug companies, and they don't do anything except they're a middleman,"
Trump said on Monday, at a news conference at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida.
