Get 2 OF'ers and put Dezenzo at 1B. Heck go for it and add Robert and Santander, they've got the money and resources to make this happen if they dont bring Brigs back and trade Pressly/Caratini/Meyers.

I would move Framber for Casas. Sign Kepler in FA and trade for Robert if they just have to move Framber.

First off no way am I giving Santander a five year deal. Plus they lose 2nd + 5th rd picks and one million in International bonus money.

As for Arenado. Not only is his luxury cap hit 25.5 mil for the next three yrs, he also is owed over FORTY million dollars in deferred money between '25 and 2041. Look at his #s the past three years and there's no reason to take this on.

Bregman is gonna cost too much for a .750-.780 ops guy

I think not all. 750-.780 OPS guys are equal.

If a guy has .750 OPS at 3b, wins a gold glove, and is renowned for the things he does to help the other players, then he is worth quite a bit of money.

I think there is no way Alex is worth less than $30M per season over the next 3-4 years.

I think his age regression is more gradual than the average player and he should be worth $200M over the next 7 seasons, but of course that will be >$30M at the start and <$20M at the end.

Steady decline right now. But I could see him bouncing back a little. He’s not a 30 mil guy right now imo. Leaves way too many guys on base and sucks at advancing runners with his pops and gidp’s. Once on base he is dreadfully slow as he runs like tim conway around the bases.

7 years is too long if the decline continues. His decline is not even really age related yet, wait til it is. I say no thanks to more than 3 or 4 years. Not my money or my decision though.

and I do realize he walks away laughing if we offer 3-4 years

I agree that a 7 year deal will look really bad in years 6 and 7. But at his worst, he is likely good for 1.5 WAR + extensive off field value.

    1. his baseball IQ and willingness to mentor/coach/game plan gives him a very high floor
    2. This team needs veteran leadership badly.
    3. Altuve's money will be off the books in yrs 6 and 7
    4. Star players are making crazy money- $30M today is the same as $20M was 5 years ago.
    5. He murders RHP and this team has a genuine weakness there.
    6. He is playoff proven.
    7. He is an Astro icon who will be climbing the team record books.
Bring him back and the good will outweigh the bad

Yeah, it’s all known by everyone what his attributes are. That and some clutch hitting would be nice. And yes the salaries are going up. .760 OPS though. Ya know?

I get it. And your opinion is valid.

I love the idea of my favorite players staying their entire careers on my favorite team.

It doesn't happen very often any more.

I get excited when it looks like it could happen and the cost ( in having a bad player on the team) isn't too bad.

Watching Biggio the last couple of years was ugly, and I expect the same from Altuve. I think Alex brings enough other benefits that it will be worth it.

Not everybody agrees and that's cool.

I really wonder if he will get the money he is seeking. Every other team sees the .760 ... and for them the aspects that are very positive us (franchise connection, leadership, etc.) might even be negative to them (association with the cheating scandal, displacing some other 3B, etc.).

I just don't see a massive market developing for people waiting to give him $200M. And if there were, I think we would have already heard it.

I like the Astros plan to wait and see, especially with a 3B BATNA in place. Depending on what Santander wants, give Bregman an exploding offer and then pivot strongly to Santander.

Lot of the kids don't understand that reference. I use it to describe my wife at times and they just look back blankly. A GIF would be cool.

Agreed. Except Dana doesn't say less, he flaps his gums and spits out bulls*** on the regular.

Tim Conway was super underrated. He brought us such great films as the Apple dumpling Gang, McHale's Navy,
and m personal favorite: GUS. Oyitch!!!!

    Back to Baseball.
It's Monday Brown get off your arse and get us a 1st Baseman and an outfielder.

I don’t have a great explanation but over the course of the offseason I’ve bought in on Zach Dezenzo, to the point that I’d be ok with him being the opening day everyday LF or 1B. If Houston just adds one more really good player (Bregman, Arenado, or Bellinger would be my guesses/asks), I think they’ll be good enough to win the division.
