I don’t know about intent to scare for distraction but I would say most likely these are big corporate drones from Amazon, Meta, or some company like that testing out residential use. They aren’t going public probably because they don’t want to expose their IP, and let competitors see what they have built.

Other possibility would be military contractors like Lockheed or Boeing. Where that wouldn’t make sense though is there are so many other areas they have the ability to test that are completely out of the view of residential areas. Even here in North Texas Lockheed and Raytheon have access to a significant amount of airspace they use regularly where you could like 10 minutes away and have no idea what Lockheed was testing down the road.

My guess is it’s Amazon. They aren’t saying anything because they know they are operating legally and they don’t want to step in front of a launch of their new service.

And I think the government knows it’s one of the big tech companies operating legally but they don’t know who or can’t say because of some legal obligation. More evidence we live in an oligarchy.

Also Trump wouldn’t shoot them down either. Imagine a car sized drone falling on top of a house in Jersey after being shot down by an F15. I don’t think an American family getting crushed to death in their sleep on Trumps orders would earn him any approval points in the latest poll.

Saw a news clip recently of a dude who shot down a drone that had been hovering over his home .... cops were called and they took him to jail.

My neighborhood HOA started using drones to search out violations ..... flying the drones over the top of homes & back yards. Two of my neighbors, one black the other asian were talking about shooting them down ....

Ehh, I'm not feeling it. If it was for a product launch, starting out causing a public panic isn't a recipe for success. They have competent PR departments that would want to get out ahead of any public distrust of the company and its offerings. And these companies don't really get to do products in secrecy anyway. They are publicly traded and need to tell their shareholders about significant developments at the company. And, if it wasn't disclosed in a shareholder call, it'd probably get leaked by one of their thousands of employees to the trade press once it started hitting the headlines. We do know already about product testing these companies do, including autonomous EVs and drone delivery -- if it was more of that, I don't know why they wouldn't say so.

It does give us a little taste of what it must be like in Gaza or some other modern battlefield. We get freaked the **** out by a 6 foot drone that doesn't do anything to directly harm us. Imagine seeing one and knowing it is outfitted with a gun or missiles and an autonomous targeting system. I think we're going to need a lot more regulation around drone operation if everyone's visceral reaction is going to be to shoot them down. Saying we need to just put up with having big mysterious machines in the sky, watching us, and capable of doing we don't know what -- that's not going to cut it.

You don't want autonomous drones hovering around in your daily.

That florida boomer who shot at it had the right idea. Do it enough and make it unprofitable...

Does the far left just fall in line? I see FranchiseBlade liked every post and vice versa. It's a cult here. Sound familiar?

I'm sure Trump will tell us in late January....

Just like he will release his taxes... a healthcare plan.... the Epstein list..... and so forth.

These are dangerous times and everyone is so very distracted. Probably what the drones are. A red herring to draw attention away from Syria, Bidens pardons and whatever laws they are passing last minute before Trump comes back to town.
