Let's take a look at current situation... Altuve Pena Alvarez Diaz Paredes Dezenzo McCormick Dubon Meyers Kind of mediocre. If they get 2023 McCormick and Dezenzo does something they could be fine. The key here is: Valdez Brown Blanco Arrighetti Verlander/Garcia Shouldn't need to score a ton....
Aren’t you a sweetheart jumping in and throwing insults around? Very classy. Cherry picked data to suit someones narrative. Astros home offensive struggles have been well remarked upon for years by those paying attention.
Cherry picked? I literally gave you the most important offensive stats for the last 7 years at home against the other 29 teams. Took me all of 7 minutes to look it up on FanGraphs.
He wasn’t traded within a year of being drafted. And he didn’t have a wRC+ >120 as a pro when he was traded.
The rules used to prevent being traded within a year of the draft (though they did use PTBNL) that guy that got traded that changed the rule wasn't that long ago was it? Just seems like a list that would be close to non-existent.
Right. My guess is that it’d be a very short list and the track record would be very good because they were players the acquiring team simply insisted on. Part of my point is that it is extremely rare for prospects like Cam Smith (very recent top 15 picks who’ve shown well) to be traded. Dansby Swanson is the only one who comes to mind.
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/59...ners-luis-castillo-trade-mlb-offseason-notes/ The consensus among a small sample of rival executives is that the Houston Astros did quite well for one year of Kyle Tucker, supplementing their major-league club with Isaac Paredes and righty Hayden Wesneski while also acquiring a top prospect, Cam Smith. Paredes, under club control for the next three seasons, is a notorious pull hitter and perfect fit for Minute Maid Park. Wesneski, under control for five more years, is the kind of pitcher the Astros routinely maximize. And while Smith, the 14th pick in the 2024 draft, is more likely to end up at first base or right field than third, his offensive potential is immense. “He can be a monster,” one exec said. One other thing to consider: Fangraphs estimates that the Astros are within about $16 million of the luxury-tax threshold. If they had kept Tucker, made him a qualifying offer and gone over the threshold, all they would have received as compensation was a pick after the fourth round – the same they will get for Bregman after exceeding the threshold last season.
Haha...anyone that thinks like you do is also an idiot. You were presented the stats that show we don't struggle to hit at home as you claimed. But you don't actually need stats to know that, you could just see that we made the ALCS every year. Teams that good don't struggle at anything measured against the rest of the league. But call me a sweetheart again...I like hearing that when I am making someone my b****.
This {emo rock band - hit single} combo is the only redeeming factor of your post. Mazel Tov on getting something right!
Look at the disparity of runs on the road vs home. I know in 2023 it was awful. Other years it’s been bad too. Also, we cant win at home in the playoffs. Have you not been watching?
Everyone saw us lose all four (4) home games of the 2019 WS, all four (4) home games of the 2023 ALCS, both games of the 2024 WC at home etc etc etc. Our offensive home struggles, especially in the playoffs, have been noted and remarked upon by Astros fans.
What about those stats for the road? That would give us proper perspective. How about play-offs? Obviously, we were one of the best teams in baseball during that time period. We went to 7 straight ALCS'. Referencing the home offense being "dismal" would be relative to that and anyone not trying to be disingenous like yourself would read it that way.
How many lineups have 3-5 guys hitting 30+ homers likely? They would have top 5 offensive players for their position in 4 spots. I think you forget how good 2023 McCormick was....
I'm not advocating for no further action. I would try to keep Bregman and move Framber for a major leage ready outfield prospect and starting pitching depth... Something like Kjerstad, Povich, and a top 10 prospect from Baltimore. Altuve Bregman Alvarez Diaz Paredes Kjerstad McCormick Pena Meyers Looks a lot better... I still wouldn't overpay Bregman though. My limit would be something like 7 years 200 million. I still don't think he's a guy who can get 8+ years on the market at his age.

Yeah I agree, I like some of the components of the return for the Astros, but it’s missing another prospect. The Cubs are getting a whole year of an MVP & Goldglove player in his prime! That is worth 55-60 million, and the Cubs are getting him at a bargain price. Soto secured 51 million for 15 seasons, and the last 5 years are going to be overpaid. Paredes might make up for some of the HR’s from Tucker, but Paredes hitting average is in the low .200’s. I keep hearing he gets on base at a decent clip, but getting the ball in play is worth a lot. I did hear that the Astros insisted on the pitcher in the deal. Brown was beaming about how they’ve got coaches who know what to do with him. Apparently the Cubs didn’t want to include him in the deal, and seems Astros said no Wesneski no deal. I trust the Astros know what they are doing. They get Paredes who’s a legit starting fielder. They get Wesneski who might be on the verge of being a breakout elite pitcher. And the guy everyone is excited about is Cam Smith, who appears to be our future at either one of the corner IF or Right field. The way he’s progressing he might make his debut as soon as 2025, but likely in the 2026 seasons. But considering the Astros are sending over an MVP player in his prime, the team should have likely gotten one more prospect.
Very true! Folks, please remember that Smith just got drafted in 2024, and he’s already up to being the #73 prospect. All the other Cubs prospects ahead of him have been tinkering in the minors for several season, getting better but they are seasoned. In this season Smith can become a top 20 prospect or better if he continues on his current trajectory.
