Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun were the light at the end of the tunnel for putting up with the most depressing year that I’ve ever experienced as a Rockets fan. That’s why I want them to do well so badly. It makes me sad when Jalen plays poorly, but if he really does become a star, then the stench of the Silas years will truly be washed out of my system. I’m glad Alpi is already there
I know what fans must be feeling but we have to look the tiger in the naked eye...... Dude is a professional that came into the league unprepared, you can blame his youth coaches, but that is just facts. You are playing catching up to the league, while other stars are shining bright at 23-24......
My thing is, I’m gonna root for him no matter what! Because it’s not like anybody has to take my basketball opinion seriously anyway, and I don’t think I’m hurting anybody by being a huge homer. I really like the kid, and he comes across great in his interviews. Regardless of his developmental path, and realistic or not, my hope is for Jalen to become a star. I believe he has the physical tools, and he seems to have a great rapport with his teammates and coaching staff. If and when he puts it together, we’ll all be happy. If he is one day no longer a Rocket, then I’ll take off my Rocket-colored glasses but until then, I’m gonna be biased!
I think he has great personality and attitude as well, but sometimes we need to be realistic. I hope he does well, but next year he should be traded and another team can take their chances on him.
I don’t want him to be traded, again because I’m biased and I want to see all our draft picks do amazingly. Realistically he is the streakiest player I’ve rooted for on our squad since…maybe JLin? But if he can turn even some of that streakiness into consistency, then it’d be amazing for us
No problem, I am sort of a homer myself, but Alpe and Jalen are not it at least tonight. I can admit that......also disappointed in Alpe's behavior to incite a potential fight with 10 points down....to me that was not leadership tonight. But I guess Udoka is responsible for this as well.....
His performances against the top teams have been bad mostly.....he has 1 or 2 games among 30 that he goes off.
For me the definition of streaky is someone who can put together great stretches, but then also play horribly right after that. I wouldn’t say he plays badly the VAST majority of the time, but he is most definitely not a consistent offensive player
When I say this I get called a hater lol Just being honest its not like I want him to do badly but if youre wondering if he will play well just see if the other team is seriously injured or a bad team if not then he is gonna suck. To me that suggest he should be playing against bench players. HE IS A SIXTH MAN. I dont like that people act like I love that he struggles when Im simply saying that he does. You know. Some of these stans in here really need to get a life. I feel sorry for them because they are gonna be like KPJ stans are now that the reality has set in.
The sad thing is that we could be nearly done with him, we could have managed to retain some trade value for him.....but then Stone decided to extend him.
He's just not consistent. It's like the TNT guys said, how often this guy scores under 10 points and under is actually insane. You rarely see great players walk out of a game with like 9 points, that' green 5 times this year. Already. Let's look at another player, a peer of Green's, around the same age, Edwards. He did it once this year, and that was in a blowout. So how many times did Ant do it last season, 6. 6 times. Green having 10 point or less games tells me he just doesn't have the confidence, the swagger, the mindset to be that guy. People will say Ime is holding him back, but I really don't think that. The offense doesn't seem to be strict, FVV and Brooks sure have no issues calling their shot. My thing with him is...it never looks easy. Even when he's having great games it looks like tough contested shots and lay ins, it rarely looks smooth, it rarely looks easy, outside of the fast break runs. This is why I'm not as hard on Sengun, because sometimes it does look easy for him. Sometimes he's cooking and you know you give him the ball something good will happen. Not with Green. It feels like he just doesn't get by his man with ease most nights, he doesn't have that explosion or that craftiness you expect out of all star guards. It's not to say he's bad, I feel like he's going to be a good guard for a long time in this league like a Crawford where some nights he will cook but...franchise cornerstone? Yeah, I'm losing faith in that each month.
Search my past posts and you will find thr answers. Also Sengun didn’t play well. Fred didn’t play well. Your ignorance.
So you’re basing your assessment on his performance based on your feelings and perception that “nothing looks easy” for him even despite the fact that he performs well. This is bias since you’re simply judging how a player “looks” physically rather than how the player performs on the court. If he scores a bucket what does it matter how easy or smooth something looks? Bron’s movements rarely look smooth but this has nothing to do with player performance. You also said you judge him harsher than Sengun for this reason. These are 2 different players playing 2 different positions. Green a smaller player and guard has to get by a perimeter defender then a big or help defense in the paint on drives. Sengun a bigger player and Center plays the post against a bigs or an iso one on one dribble drive from the high post against a big. 2 very different areas of attack and different situations. So again this is bias. You said Brooks calls “his shot”. What does this even mean? Are you talking about driving to the paint? If that’s what you’re referring to Brooks gets to the paint 3.8 times a game to Green’s 9 plus. You compared him to Rocket fan favorite Ant Edwards. Edwards gets 39.1 front court touches per game to Green’s 25.5. Edwards is used heavily in that offense that uses a lot of off ball screens to get him open. Again go back to my previous posts as I have said Green isn’t utilized properly in this offense where Sengun dominates front court touches at 45.2. Then you have FVV at 29.6 touches. However Green consistently had double figures in scoring in 22-23 as he had 34.1 touches per game. When Fred was in the corner for a couple sets we saw Green score this last game vs OKC. We see Green successful when Rockets put him in positions to score easier like running double drags or a DHO into a screen or a screen 30 ft out on the wing. One thing to note is that in this Sengun centric offense he often defers to him instead of consistently being aggressive. We saw Jeff Green tell Jalen during this game against OKC to be more aggressive and attack the basket more. His own deferring to Sengun and lack of touches and sets to get him open is possibly the reason for his inconsistency.
I dunno WTF is wrong with FVV, this is uncharacteristic of him, well below his career shooting averages. If he doesn't start shooting better soon, he's going to play himself out of that team option year. or any potential extension in lieu of it.
FVV and Sengun dominate touches. The sets they run is Sengun centric off a 2 man game. The DHO’s to Green on the perimeter are ineffective. Offense not good and doesn’t maximize his scoring potential. But yes he defers to Sengun and FVV too much. This is both on coaching and him.
