Talent walked away but it was always replaced. I'm not so sure this is going to happen this time around. I expected a guy like Paredes, a top MLB ready prospect and a young talented lower level prospect for Tucker. Dana came up short IMHO.
I really enjoyed the day with the trade. Until Dab had to come out and say Chas, Jake and Dubie are our OF next season. Effing depressing!!!
Well of course not. You can’t be great forever in pro sports. This was an effort to build a bit for the future and not let a massive asset walk away with no return.
Talent was thin on the farm. Just added our best prospect and a proven player for a guy who was certain to leave after 1 season. I’ll rest easy
They aren't done. That's just if the season were to open today. I fully expect at least 2 more players to be brought in. with Wesneski pencilled in as a starter, they can trade one if they want. Framber, Brown, Blanco, Arrighetti, Garcia, Wesneski, Gordon, Gusto, France, McCullers, Javier, Blubaugh. Lots of options. Lots of different values. The market for Caratini may be drying up though, with b/u catchers signing recently.
No return is one thing getting a guy with low velo off of the bat, a possible guy that could be good but is a lower minors guy and a wildcard pitcher for a top 10 player in MLB even if he's in the last year of his contract is an underwhelming return. At the very least I expected Paredes/Shaw and a throw in pitcher. If that had been the return then they could've kept the train rolling at the Ice Box. I guess I've been spoiled by Luhnow/Click. I know there are more FA signings and trades coming, lets hope they do a better job in those future trades. Dana should trade Framber straight up for Casas and sign Santander in FA if they want to try to keep the train rollling and I dont even like Santander that much.
I wanted their best prospect and a proven player for a top 10 player in MLB even if he can be a FA in one year.
You have no idea whether Shaw or Smith will have a better MLB career. Really odd that’s where you draw the line between “keeping the train rolling” and “we are doomed”. He’s already in AA too so wouldn’t call him a “low minors guy”.
I've seen a lot of Shaw's clips and I think he's going to be a star level player. He's very athletic and has great bat speed. He's like a more MLB ready version of Matthews IMHO.
That’s great but I’m sure Dana and our scouting team have watched a lot more than some clips. The one thing Dana has going for him is his scouting/drafting.
