Whoa whoa. Now I'm not saying i hope that doesn't happen. Let's hope the kid becomes a good player 1st at least. Jeez that's a lot to put on a kids head. I'm rooting for him. I have a feeling he's gonna be a good one.
Fast hands is important. May not age well into his 30's, but that'd be a great problem to worry about when it happens.
Brice Matthews is a Star, Steal over 40 Bases, 20 Hrs, Avg, Speed, Strong Arm. 5 Tool Player. Plays SS, 3B, 2B Brice is Born and Raised in Houston, played in Houston Astros Youth Academy, Played College at Alabama as a SS. Drafted to the Astros Luckily. Astros invest in a Youth Academy in Houston and their own Youth are selected.
Brown had Mathews under his wing for several years before the draft. If no one else has it handy I will look up some links for you.
Baseball America Top 10 Spoiler 1. Jacob Melton 2. Brice Matthews 3. Zach Dezenzo 4. Walker Janek 5. Miguel Ullola 6. Ryan Forcucci 7. Shay Whitcomb 8. A.J. Blubaugh 9. Ethan Pecko 10. Anderson Brito
Interesting they have 5 pitchers in that top 10. I really like Pecko and Blubaugh. I’m not as high on Ullola but the front office seems to think he’s a good prospect. Add in Smith and this farm looks pretty good.
So, Cam Smith seems like he should be our top prospect right away. He was spectacular in his debut last season, and seemingly has no real red flags in his profile. No guarantee of stardom, but all of our other prospects have some fairly noticeable flaws.
I have Brito, Peco, Forcucci, and Treadwell in my top 10 currently. None are close to ML till I get down to Blubaugh at 15.
Blanco and Arrighetti would like a word. If the Yankees/Dodgers farms produced two middle of the rotation starters, their farms would receive unending MSM praise, as they should. Most farms do not produced two middle of the rotation starters. When farms do, there is a high probability that one if not two of the rookie starters is a highly rated prospect. As a thought experiment, only for @Buck Turgidson after a few beers*, what is the trade market value for two MoR starters with almost all of their controllable years left? * I think we can all agree that sports thought experiments work best after a few beers
No thoughts, no experiments, no beers. YEEHAA, Jester's dead! I do believe Army/Navy football is at 2pm today, that's a proper American ballgame. Couple of gummies tonight before the Rox game and then we can talk.
Seems every year the Astros get tabbed as the worst or among the worst minor league systems, but that minor league system produces enough quality that propels the Astros through injuries or fellas leaving via free agency. Last year Blanco developed in that minor league system for years, pitched like a top of the rotation pitcher for much of the year. Sure Blanco had been up and down from the minor leagues to the big leagues a few times in his career, but never was he this good! In Blanco Astros had a legit Ace when they needed one for much of the year. Though I think he did tire by the end of the season, because he pitched more innings than he’d ever pitched in his career. I will say the Astros minor league system is low on hype, but high on quality and makeup. More guys reach their potential however limited it might be in the Astros system, than most other teams.
Yep, this is why I take some respected members on this MB saying how terrible the Stros farm system is with a grain of salt.
