Ha... I was thinking more like Lance Berkman or Mike Scott. They all are competitors, they do what is required - don't get in trouble - but they all have interests other than obsessing over their career numbers or playing until they have to be dragged off the field. Tucker also has had some focus issues but that appears to be less of an issue now.
Yeah - I agree with you. Tucker is the more gifted athlete and hitter.... but Bregman and Altuve are grinders, leaders and they take on a bigger load than Tucker has had to. I have nothing against Tuck, but I will admit I have more memories and a softer place in my heart for Bregman - who just seems to contribute and "get it". Tucker is capable of having an 8-9 type WAR season for sure, but I wouldn't want to sign him to anything over 4 seasons. Bregman is someone I trust obsesses over baseball and is just smarter and more laser focused than Tucker and that usually matters when guys are older.
THIS This (and a lack of good options) is why I think this team NEEDS Bregman. This team has lost so much leadership over the years. Who will replace that part of Alex's role here? Even on field, I don't see Bregman as ever being a negative type of player. I could see him in the 1.5-2 WAR area as a 37 year old. Couple that with his off field value and I think 7 yrs /$200M is not terrible if that's what it takes. Fangraphs depth charts projects him for 4.1 WAR in his age 31 season ( same as 2024). Average regression due to age is 0.5 WAR per year. Let's say based on body type (bigger guys age faster), work ethic, Baseball I Q, and skill set that Alex regressed at 0.4 WAR per year 2025 = 4.1 2026 = 3.7 2027 = 3.3 2028 = 2.9 2029 = 2.5 2030 = 2.1 2031 = 1.7 2032 = 1.3 Even in an 8 year deal he is much more playable than a typical player at the end of a long contract.
Sorry man. I know you hate it. Pour yourself another harvey wallbanger and turn on the “my two dads” marathon. It’s gonna be a long winter.
I don't see any way they go into next season with McMeyers in CF/LF, if so that just means you're not a serious team. I guess this depends a lot on what they do at the cornerIF. Can we trade for Moises Alou already?

No need to apologize to me. Meyers had his shot. Chas should have some opportunity to see if he can get back to 2023 Chas. I STILL would like to see Leon get a real chance. But I'm over Meyers unless he's exclusively only starting vs LHP when a guy ball pitcher is on the mound. That will be about 15% of the games. Or, send him to Sugar Land.
I was half kidding anyway. Leon looked pretty bad in the very small sample that we saw. Then again, Tucker was awful in his first 50 games or so. But then again again, Tucker was a lot younger than Leon when he got his shot. I hate to see a guy waste away in the minors but Leon might just not be a legit MLB hitter. He is 27 now right?
I have been a strong supporter of Meyers, but sometimes you just need to cut bait. Yes, Leon may not be MLB caliber. But he hasn't had any opportunity. He has loud tools- better tools than Dezenzo or Whitcomb, Chas or Meyers. I would be fine with sending Meyers to Sugar Land ( since apparently he has no trade value) and making Leon the #4 OF and primary backup in LF and RF. When he gets 100 PAs (or if he gets 30 Ks whichever comes first lol) if he hasn't cut it then send him back to AAA and bring up Melton ( who will likely have at least twice that many PAs playing every day) Unless the Astros suddenly add 3+ impact bats before opening day, the Astros will NEED a hitting prospect to step up. Dezenzo, Whitcomb, Leon, or Melton MUST have a promising season for the window to open in 2026+.
