NL is compiling even more of the top players.

AL will be easier to get through.

When deciding whether to sign ANY player, the fans should not be worried about how long the deal is or how much the player gets paid.

The only issue is if the owner will continue to spend.

Last year, the Astros were up against the CBT because of bad contracts, and Crane still signed Hader when the bullpen wasn't even a weakness.

If Bregman signs for 8 years and is unplayable by 2030, it really only matters if Crane uses the team payroll as an excuse to not upgrade the position ( or any position that needs it) in order to compete.

The Dodgers and Yankees give contracts to Tyler Glasnow and DJ LeMahieu who are basically worthless for entire seasons at a time and then spend even more the next year.

The Astros don't have the revenue streams that NY and LA have, but if the team makes the playoffs, there should be no reason there isn't money the next year to spend - regardless of what you spent the year before.

Money is always a factor, but none of these teams are losing money. None of these franchises are going down in value. It's about the priority and motivation of the owner.

And if Jose Altuve sucks 4 years from now, Jim Crane needs to greenlight a trade or signing for a capable 2b if none are in the system. And the fans shouldn't get all pissed that Brown and Crane signed him into his 40s.

Maybe the Yankees or the Red Sox will get him.

It depends on Jim Crane resigning his own players.

I am curious what Jim Crane does. Financially will he resign his own players especially Bregman and Tucker.

Off the Books Shedding Bad Contracts

Jose Abreu, Rafael Montero, Lance McCullers Jr.

Astros have money to spend. Resign Bregman, Tucker

How are they off the books...or how do you imagine that might happen in time to re-sign Bregman?

Will still likely come down to Houston vs. Arizona vs. Washington.

This isn't Bregman's first big contract. He will value and likely go with the team that is best equipped to compete throughout the life of the contract (and he'll get paid a ton doing it).

The Astros are good at this type of stuff, this is the exact list I heard a day after the Astros were eliminated and I posted.

The Yankees IMO make the most sense, but haven't heard anything really recently from Astros people.

Bregman and Burnes for the Yankees?

Astros are among the teams in on Fried and have looked into Walker (another Yankees target) and others (Goldschmidt).

The owner for Arizona really wanted Bregman months ago, and thought he would help him with getting public support for passing stadium funding. No idea if something has changed in the last month, but they had an interest in getting Bregman and letting Walker walk.

The Red Sox have some top notch prospects. I could see Anthony, Teel, Casas for Tucker.

I've also heard that he has some potential non-baseball business interests in Arizona...

I still don’t understand why the Angels let Ohtani walk for free. Everyone knew he wasn’t coming back. Astros now in same situation with Tucker

I'm very happy to hear Brown is open to trading Framber/Tucker. Perhaps losing Springer and Correa before has shown that players aren't married to just a winning team and need more. Also seeing how the Nationals and Padres got something for Soto while the Yanks and Angels let Soto and Ohtani walk with only a comp draft pick. Perhaps this will kick the tires on the Astros actually pulling the trigger and solidifying their young core.

My prediction is Tucker has a huge contract platform season.

    I'm thinking 1998 Moises Alou-like

And then the $400M+ talk gets thrown around
