Kermit the Cole is asking if he can go ahead and opt out now so he can try and get more money from the Yanks.
Actually this might be bad. Had they signed Soto, would money be limited to sign other players? Now they have the money to go after Bregman, Fried or Burnes, Santander etc. Would multiple of those players be better or Soto??
Looks like another, "I wanna opt out... oh wait you're not going to give me the bump, just kidding" scenario incoming.
Nobody was going to offer him anything until Soto signed. Everybody knows it's wasted effort until then. All they would be doing is raising his price (if the offer was bigger than the Astros) with zero % chance of actually signing him.
Yankees will go hard after Bregman. They will offer 8 /$200M within hours. I think the Yankees and Dodgers are the 2 teams the Astros do not need to match, but they do need to be close. Boston, Detroit, and Philly are the 3 teams I am worried about. Unless the Yankees throw unused Soto money at him making him an offer he can't refuse.
Soto is not going to opt out of that contract...he'll be stupid to do so. It'll be just like Cole. Mets by that time will probably hope he opts out.
The one good game he had in the WS when he hit 2 home runs and the phillies still came back and beat us.
We coulda paid Soto. Just go cheap elsewhere This is how it would work…. 1B- Singleton 2B- Singleton SS- kessinger 3B- Whitcomb LF- julks CF- carlos Gomez RF- soto C- Gattis DH- Singleton No typos in there
