It was all intentional by sengun, our franchise player decided to have an average game so he can let green experience what's it's like to b the numero uno
I was here before Jalen was born so i think i was here his 1st season. Personally, i thought his rookie season was fantastic (in the moment) because he posted a TS+ of 97, which is his career high by a good margin. Reed has sucked so far, but he's not being gifted 30+ mpg and unlimited shots like jalen was since the team isn't trash now. I think Reed will take some time, but if 2 years from now he's still garbage, i'll be railing against him the same way i do jalen now, same way i did KPJ before (when i was being accused of being a jalen homer).
When Jalen has one of those poor games, it's super easy to laser in on him because his mistakes are typically very loud/impactful. But on the other side, his points are also usually very loud. He's sort of like the anti-Kevin Martin...You don't really hear the words "A quiet 25" for Jalen. When he gets 25 it's very noticeable, and when he goes for 14 with crucial turnovers, it's just as noticeable. But 3 good games out of 5 is not bad at all! Something to build on, hopefully
Look dude.. Jalen Green has been immensely disappointing this season so far but do you actually watch or play the sport at all to get a feel for the fact Reed Sheppard has a problem merely getting up jump shots. Rookie Green wouldn't be this quite on offense on this team because he has the athleticism and isn't 6'0 where he can at least get shots up. This isn't an issue about Sheppard not getting the same reps as Green. He simply cant create enough separation or is just too short most of the time.
Yo welcome back! I said green was awesome as a rookie and reed has sucked, i'm not sure what you're saying here?
Jalen Green's main flaw is he's a confidence player. He levels up in middle of games with things like his handle when he gets in a rhythm and knows he's going to be the one dribbling the ball the most which was the case today. I saw it literally today. He starts off with a loose handle and then his feel and confidence go up as the game progresses and he's showing quick compact quick dribbles that looked extremely secure. He usually ups his creativity when he gets in a rhythm. It's a sign that the coaching staff doesn't believe in him so he only gets confident in trying his deep bag stuff only when he is playing really well. Look at most stars, they don't fear going deep in their dribble and scoring package when they are struggling.
You are also saying it's a product of Reed not getting reps like Green his rookie year. I'm saying otherwise. Kid has a basic flaw of being able to put up shots without the fear of getting blocked.
Jalen was (in my opinion) a far superior prospect to reed, but ya if reed was getting 34 minutes instead of 12 his counting stats would be better, same as every player in the league. I like reed a lot long term though, not nearly as much as i liked green, but i do like him.
He played great but even when he occasionally plays like prime Jordan you can't help but think that his game isn't made for playoffs. He can get to the ft line very easy if he doesn't settle for 3s and attacks the rim but those fouls will not be called in the playoffs. He will not have so much space to make those layups. If there was no such thing as playoffs and the team with the most wins became the champs i'd be open to keep him but to be succesful in the playoffs you have to be an elite or near elite 3pt shooter. They are going to lock him up very easily in the playoffs.
If you can shoot and play defense youre the best prospect green can do neither of those things. yeah sure he play good tonight against a injured team without their stars. thats who he is. i have learned to accept it. against philly without pg and embiid he's the man. clipper sno harden jordanesque but the next good team we play eh will run like a b****. its who he is.
You could have said the exact same thing about De'Aron Fox or Demar Derozan by roughly this age or points in their career. Hell you could have said it about Jaylen Brown at roughly the same age despite being developed in an elite environment (winners, mentors, coaches). HELL YOU COULD SAY THIS ABOUT KOBE BRYANT TILL HIS THIRD SEASON. Green's path to greatness - if he wants it - is getting to the line 7-8 times a game and only taking 4-5 3PTers a game as counters to when the defense sags too much. He's played really poorly this season there's no doubt about that, but as far as "other skills" aka his primary skill scoring in the restricted area aka the most important points in the NBA - compared to our 3 other biggest scorers in that zone: Sengun 57.5% on 6.7 attempts Jalen 69.2% on 4.3 attempts per game >> this is why I've been saying we need to create more of these shots and surround him with shooters Tari 67.4% on 4.3 attempts Amen 71.9% on 4 attempts >> also deserves better shooting around him Amen is finishing slightly better on slightly fewer attempts. Sengun is finishing far worse on much more attempts. No one is really scoring in the restricted area better than him and this is his least efficient offensive season ever. He has been bad for most of this season and he's still one of our best scorers here. So please have another look at the numbers and also have a look at actually how well he plays when there's good spacing > whether that's because we have enough shooters on the floor (spacing is about reputation just as much as converting 3's) or because we're playing a mediocre team. I guarantee that applies to Amen as well. These guys are averaging decent numbers in a VERY crowded paint and it's probably because coach is against forcing their way through the paint so much. We need to free up the paint in general, no one outside of Sengun/FVV is getting enough space there. His shooting is not going to improve a lot. In his prime I see him at only 5-6 attempts per game making 37-38%. What you need to get the most out of him is to run a system that frees up driving lanes for him (like the Kings) or just much better shooters on the floor with him. Not saying he deserves it, I'm just saying if your only job was to figure out how to get more points in the restricted area more easily for Jalen Green and Amen Thompson, that's what you would try.
for a poster that gets easily triggered when folks says stupid sht like sengun sucks at defense or isn't a franchise player, like how sengun proves the doubters wrong how about u wait until green gets into playoff to have a chance to prove himself. and if he gets locked up we still have franchise player sengun to carry us to victory, worrying about things that have yet to be seen is just weird.
I’m talking about when they were drafted, just as draft prospects. Jalen was an elite prospect imo, just didn’t work out.
I am too. Jalen was never known as a shooter just a high volume scorer and dunker. Reed was known as a shooter and defender. To me thats higher.
I wonder when these player only threads going to stop. Talking about a player over the team when your team sucks is ok, this is just annoying especially on a team that is trying not to have a franchise player
Can somebody explain something to me. And I am being serious. People keep saying Green has such a quick first step. But I really do not see that. When he tries to get past his man on an isolation he rarely does so and he usually needs to back out and try again or take a step back three. What am I missing. I mean, almost every pundit says he has such a quick first step, so it must be true but I just do not see it. What am I missing, or to they mean the first step out of the a triple threat? (If that is the case can we please stop with him initiating an offense. Let him attack his man on a close out after we have someone else initiate the offense). Or is his handle just to bad to not use his quick first step. What am I missing? Even with these "good" Jalen Green games it is more that his bad shots are just going in it does not look sustainable. When he hits his threes he scores a lot of points, but we have over 3 years of evidence that he is just not a good 3 point shooter. He continues to take bad shots and does not really create for other. Some games his bad shots go in, but in many they do not. I do not understand how he still hasn't learned to be more of a team player and why he doesn't try to get better shots. He remains an extreme high jumper with athleticism but since he still is not able to get good shots I am starting to give up on him of ever becoming a good efficient scorer.
They usually go in more against bad teams or teams without their stars. That suggests that he play way better against other teams second unit. One day a good coach is gonna realize he should be a sixth man not a starting shooting guard. He is Eric Gordon more than he is Zach Lavine. And there was a time when I thought Zach was his floor not his ceiling.
I think the answer is in the fact that he's already in the past shown he can get past his man way more regularly. He went to the FT line 50% more often a couple of years ago. Free throws 6.6 times a game at age 19/20 is historically excellent for players that age. I don't think you guys are quite grasping how bad our shooting and spacing is. We're really bad at shooting like 27th and in terms of spacing not only are we bad shooters by reputation but also our best scorer (along with the opponent's best rim protector) are sitting in the paint very often. Let's say like Ime mentioned at last season's exit interview we were thinking about coming into this season with JG/Alpi being the core of the offense. The 3 shooters around them should be better than what we had for the season which is Dillon Brooks on fire, FVV and Jabari got worse at shooting (combined like 33-34% shooting around your 2 core scorers). Would things be better if Green or Alpi shot better? Of course they would. But I think we first need to see what amount of damage Sengun/Green can do from 2PT range when the other 3 guys are creating average spacing for them. It's not ideal but it's not unusual to have 1 non-shooter and one poor shooter on the floor so Sengun and Green alone shouldn't be holding us back. For this kind of situation we're in (poor shooting, packed paint always) you need a tank of a SG like Harden or you need a pure shooter like Bane. Normally you would just acquire someone, but in truth if nothing changes we're going to get swept in the playoffs and barely be able to score and soon after we will re-discover that we need more successful ideas than just FVV/Sengun PnR carrying the offense all the time. There's a lot of room for improvement in the offense. We're better than the 3rd worst team TS% that we're averaging and I don't think we can sustain this historic rebounding run forever.
