If we're going further in time I vote for Kojak. Never watched it but my parents liked it.

I honestly think I need to revisit some of those older shows
    Barbaby Jones
    Kojak
    McMillan and Wife

In the 80s I loved PI shows
    Magnum PI
    Riptide
    Simon and Simon

You asked about books earlier, and if you want to get in the Way Back Machine, I have suggestions.

Yep, people get old, books don't.

    The Big Sleep, Raymond Chandler
    Clockers, Richard Price
    Killer Inside Me, Jim Thompson
    The Alienist, Caleb Carr
    Galveston, Nick Pizzolatto
    In Cold Blood, Truman Capote

anything by Dennis Lahane, Dash Hammett, Chandler...?

    .....

If you want to get Detroit: anything by Ellmore Leonard

If you want to get LA: anything by James Ellroy

If you want to get Florida: anything by Carl Hiaasen

If you want to get Texas: anything by Joe Lansdale

Not sure if serious, but if so, it has been back. It is renamed On Patrol Live and comes on Reels. Mostly the same hosts and same format.

I will also vote for that and First 48.

Great list. I would also add in Michael Connelly's Bosch novels and John Sandford's Davenport novels.
