Rex Ryan pointed out today how QB's who slide like that (early or late) are always going to be prone to any sort of hit that causes the back of their head to hit the ground. Not sure what the solution is... unless we invoke some two hand touch rule for any running QB.
We could start by implementing penalties for b**** ass QBs like Mahomes and Kenny Pickett who exploit the rule by faking slides and faking going out of bounds. 30 yard penalty. **** you pat.
There would certainly have to be some sort of compromise.... or a "neutral zone" where the QB can't be hit, but they can only gain 5 yards or something. And once they choose to go beyond that, they're expected to take hits like any WR or RB. At that point, they likely won't slide which will probably be safer from a concussion standpoint, but expose them to every other injury that the NFL doesn't want.
The solution is to ban QB's from crossing the LOS and gaining yards on the ground. If they can't be hit like ball carriers they shouldn't be gaining yards like ball carriers.
Honestly, I came here to say something similar.. I am not happy with the way things are going at the moment, OLine SUX, Stroud looks a bit regressed, and bobby can't make an adjustment to save his life.. We also have some embarrassing losses. BUT, the Chiefs rely on black magic and luck or they could be like 6-6. We have the same record as the Ravens, and the Panthers almost beat the Chiefs as well as taking the Buccs to overtime. Its a weird league and we could be 11-2 just as easily as 5-8. I admit, my confidence has wavered, and I am worried about this stretch and the playoffs more than I would have. But watching the Bears and Raiders lose the way they did... its not just us. Lets just please do what we can to fix what we can.
DeMeco was on 610 doing his best to minimize/whitewash what happened. Said that the Jacksonville players "overreacted" by throwing punches and trying to pull Azeez toward the sideline. Gave the expected "he's really a great guy and wonderful teammate" defense. Said that he stood by Azeez and everything he did yesterday. He also tried to shift blame onto Lawrence but stating that a lot of QBs try to take advantage of the rule by pretending to slide or sliding late and that makes it really difficult on the defensive player. I understand he's in a tough position here but his response today was complete BS. I'm forced to agree with Clint Stoerner's take: Azeez deliberately led with his forearm which is something you haven't seen him do all season. It was a bush league move that will end up hurting this team in the end. I'd love to hear his take if that had been CJ lying on the field with his arms flailing in the air.
Or maybe you're just 12 ply and Meco knows he'd have hit him even harder if the same thing happened when he played.....
All throughout the history of football arm tackles were seen as weak... now apparently they are ultimate weapons of destruction....
Their QB should have protected himself by sliding earlier or being a man and taking the regular tackle.
Azeez has always had personal foul issues. I don't think he's dirty. He's a talented player, but with him, the personal fouls are simply the cost of doing business.
Other nfl fans are talking about retaliation on Stroud. Ignoring that illegal hit that he already took.
Azeez will be suspended because being a cheap shot artist is what he has always been. Do you really want a bounty out on CJs head? The league is going to step in and make sure there is consequence to the actions of cheap shot artists in the league.
Kiko Alonso got no suspension for a worst hit in 2017 after the league got strict on it. Alonso’s was worse. Let’s stop the pussication of football. Azeez- He actually hit Trevor in the shoulder. Alonzo was crown to head. You can’t suspend him for this….
