Haha ya for sure, i'm glad he still has his believers though and hopefully someday i can believe again. I LOVED him as a prospect and after his rookie year though he would for sure be a star so his last couple seasons have made me sad.
I think the star deal that we've been waiting for, like Booker, would need to come along to disrupt what we've got going on right now. Obviously, a lot can change between now and February, but I wouldn't be in favor of sending out a FRP in order to improve our playoff chances this year, because that's a piece that will be necessary for that future star deal. One thing to consider is that we are currently over the luxury tax going into next season with only eleven players under contract. So, don't expect any Oladipo-like contract moves this year to extend the trade window on any of our expiring contracts. Expect Tate, Adams, Green, and possibly even Landale to be allowed to walk for nothing. Trading any of thos guys for a contract that goes beyond this year not only puts us into the tax threshold, but over the 1st apron.
Houston Rockets Trade Breakdown Change in Team Outlook: +8.9 ppg, +3.0 rpg, and +1.2 apg. Incoming Players Nikola Vucevic 34 year old, 6-10, 260 lb PF from USC 20.9 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 3.2 apg in 31.9 minutes in 2024-2025 Outgoing Players Jock Landale 29 year old, 6-11, 255 lb C from Saint Mary's 3.9 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 1.0 apg in 11.1 minutes in 2024-2025 Jae'sean Tate 29 year old, 6-4, 230 lb F from Ohio State 2.2 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 0.5 apg in 4.8 minutes in 2024-2025 Cam Whitmore 20 year old, 6-7, 230 lb F from Villanova 5.9 ppg, 1.4 rpg, 0.5 apg in 9.9 minutes in 2024-2025
I'm guessing FVV gets his option declined and then a new contract starting in the $30M range gets signed. This would give the Rockets about $25M to work with under the 2nd apron.
That's definitely a possibility. Have to keep in mind Jabari and Tari are extension-eligible too, though I suppose their new salaries wouldn't begin until the season after next.
I would expect the same. The Rockets are at $188m at FVV’s current number. The Rockets would have to fill out their roster with minimum contracts. Again, not the end of the world as we are talking about players who shouldn’t see the floor, anyway. But it gives us minimal wiggle room, especially considering looming extensions for Bari and Tari. If they don’t get Fred restructured this offseason, I think the writing is on the wall for him here. I’m not real fluent in the cap, so there could be some things I am missing. This is just based on the reported salary and cap figures.
If we opt into FVV’s contract (and aren’t willing to go into the luxury tax), we could waive Landale and Holiday for about 12 mil in savings. But yeah, makes way more sense to try to lower FVV’s cap figure.
What if he wants 4 years though? We're not giving him $120m guaranteed. $30m/season for 2 seasons on declining salary would be great. Maybe team option for a third season. He'd be an excellent player to bring off the bench or as your 5th best starter on a title team.
@peleincubus I mentioned Nuggets benefited from something like 20 teams tanking for Wemby. Nuggets played a bunch of 8th seeded level teams in the playoffs. Won a championship that year.....not since. Maybe Rockets this year. Now teams are tanking for Cooper Flagg. Here is an example. Maybe Fox is a available. $34M.......
I was telling some people while watching the game last night that I bet the rockets may come to some easy wins this end of season. This draft should be more sought after than the last one.
Oh definitely. Let me correct myself on wages (slightly lower): now and 25/26 https://hoopshype.com/ Steph Curry (now $55.8M).......59.6M (next yr) LeBron $53M( now) AD (expecting over $60M in free agency) Jokic $55M (now) Jaylen Brown $53M (now)........$57.1M (next yr) Tatum $54M (now)............$58.5M (next yr) Donavan Mitchell $46.4M (now)......$50.1M (next yr) Kawhi $49.2M (now)........$50M (next yr) Giannis $48.8M (now).....$54M (next yr) Dame $48.8M (now)......$54M (next yr) Embiid $51.4M (now)....$55M (next yr) PG13 $49M (now).........$51.6M (next yr) *So with this I'm not sure if possible bonuses are included. Jalen Green is 18.9 pts /game Sengun is 18.8 pts / game with Jerami Grant I think It would be: Sengun 22 -24 pts / game Jalen Green 22 - 24 pts / game Jerami Grant 19 - 23 pts / game But I digress
Cam Whitmore for Keon Ellis Draft capital to balance trade Risky trading high ceiling for high floor Keon Ellis would give the Rockets a 24 year old defensive guard that can hit threes on a cheap contract. Not much of a creator or a cutter.
Completely agree - no sense allowing assets to wither away on the vine. Send them to a team who might be preparing cap space. Might keep Jock and Holiday, they both have team options for next year and are cost controlled. Really depends on who you are getting back. The only team with cap space is Detroit with a little over $10m. Two players I'd like to target - Bones Hyland from the Clippers - not getting a whole lot of play in LA, shooting pretty well and a great defender. An Ime type player and a potential replacement for FVV should you choose not to pick up that $44.8m final year or pick up the option and use it as matching salary in a big trade. Shouldn't have a steep cost and comes with bird rights attached and RFA matching rights. Could be a long term piece. next contract shouldn't be terribly expensive. Robert Williams from Portland, high end backup center and the perfect complement to Sengun. What we all hoped Adams would be defensively .... under contract for next year, comes with bird rights Imagine a defensive lineup of Bones, Amen, Tari, Jabari & Williams ... I wouldn't mind a Jalen insurance policy, but I don't really see anyone available that I'd spend the assets on currently.
I agree on both players & your logic. 3 team trade: HOU - LAC - POR POR: PJ (LAC) + Tate (HOU) + some draft compensation (3 SRPs or protected HOU 2027 FRP ?) LAC: Adams (HOU) HOU: Time Lord (POR) + Bones (LAC)
His outgoing salary - the amount the Rockets can take back up to 125% is his actual salary this season - $12,483,048 so a maximum return of $15,603,810 His incoming salary - the amount the team receiving him must match is $35,111,111 which is the average salary over the life of the extension within 125% so $28,088,888 in incoming salary for the team he goes to. That means the team he goes to has to send out another $12,485,078. if they sent out the maximum $15,603,810 the Rockets can take in return. Historically that was done with the aid of teams with cap space absorbing a contract making the $$ work in exchange for an asset but there's only 1 team with cap space this season and they (Detroit) only have ~$10m so not enough ... The other option is to send out two more contracts that make up the difference. I showed a while back that a trade between Houston & Charlotte would work Green & Brooks for Ball & Salaun. The Rockets would be taking in $42.6m and sending out $34.7m. 42.6 /1.25 = 34.1m just under the outgoing number. Charlotte would be taking in roughly $50.3 and sending out 42.6 (50.3 = 22.4 for Brooks, 28.1 for Jalen) 42.6x1.25 = 53.25 they also satisfy the requirement. New this year to the CBA, Both teams would have to remain below the first apron to make use of the 125% rule - Cross the 1st apron and its dollar for dollar matching making it infinitely more difficult.
Thanks for this information. That’s actually quite reassuring, as there are currently 12 teams over the 1st apron, leaving us 17 teams that we could still make a deal with (and I was thinking pretty much any deal would also have to involve Detroit).
Hyland is someone I liked when he was languishing in Denver. I am a little concerned now that he is in his 3rd year in LA with minutes continually trending down, while his numbers still seem to indicate productivity if given the minutes. Not sure what’s going on there. I’d definitely be willing to take a flyer on him.
