Hypocrites have existed on both sides of the political aisle and always have. Democrats grumbled about Trump pardoning his political allies and now plenty of Republicans (and Democrats, mind you) are grumbling about Biden pardoning his son. It's interesting that your takeaway is that this hypocrisy is a pervasive problem on the Democratic side and not the Republican side.
I recall Clinton's pardons being pretty controversial as well, though not really overly familiar as to why since I was only a freshman in high school back then.
Not necessarily. The Kennedy's - Bush's and Trump all have survived worse and have some cache from era to era. This will bleed into the background like most stuff.
Agreed. I'm not saying, "Tax evasion and gun charges, so what?" No. But.....they really haven't come up with more, with the exception of Hunter Biden's d*** pics, I suppose, and a bunch of, "Hunter Biden profited off of being a Biden, and this is his dick, ergo, he committed horrific crimes and must be stopped!" Fomenting an insurrection that got people hurt and killed, convicted (essentially) of rape, stealing highly classified documents, being convicted of felonies, running phony charities, running a phony school that also stole money......but having a Supreme Court nullify your crimes. Speaking of the Supreme Court, if Biden wants to outrage MAGA, why not just stay in office and not leave? Just say it's an official act.
biden made another miscalculation by repeatedly saying he wouldnt pardon his son, but those comments were made when he most likely thought trump would never be president again. with trump coming into office and promising vengeance and to weaponize the DOJ and FBI to go after his political enemies i can understand the flip-flop.
You ain't bulls***tin'. My wife's sister in Brazil the day after the election: "After all Trump has said and has done" (rape, insurrection, theft of govt documents, "they're eating the cats they're eating the dogs", "inject bleach," "it will magically go away", "you said the hurricane will hit Alabama, and I Sharpie'd the cone of uncertainty to show it") "he still gets elected? What is wrong with Americans?"
Mans only got a few more expected years to live. He doesn't want his final years of his life seeing his remaining son dragged in the mud. I don't think he should've done it. It screams hypocrisy and dulls Dem complaints about Trump.
Again, we know this is false because Biden has said why he pardoned his son. he could of very easily said it is because he's afraid of Trump's DoJ. He did not say this. He said his own DoJ is going after his son for political reasons.
Clinton pardoned his brother - I want to say that Jimmy Carter pardoned a family member as well. Nixon was obviously pardoned by Ford - which was a huge deal at the time. I understand why pardon's exist - and at the end of the day, it comes down to what the American people will tolerate. Just in the last 40 years we have had a President illegally and outside of congressional approval sell arms to fight a war in another country..... we have had a President have an affair with a subordinate that was like 22 years old and then lie about it under oath ..... a President that started a war and displaced another leader completely based on fake information...... a President that has a long history of sexual assaults and criminal behavior and openly asked an American enemy to get him dirt on his opponents...... and a President that had very possibly was involved in profiting off his position as VP and President. The water has been turned up on the American people - especially the last 20 years, and no one realizes that we are being boiled alive.
I don’t really care all that much that Hunter was pardoned. The straight up lies from Biden and his administration regarding whether he was going to do it or not is shameful. Also the Jan 1. 2014 thing is funny. People in here have been saying it was all on the up and up for years. Sure Jan.
There has been plenty of corruption and scandal in the history of the Presidency and their administrations. I would hesitate to be a prisoner of my age and claim things within my living memory are so different then the past.
This was always going to happen before the sentence was handed down. Not many are surprised. The all encompassing pardon is a bit unorthodox but whatever. The country has moved on from the Biden era.
Yep. If this were any other country under these circumstance after the courts have literally told the sitting president he is immune, and the incoming elected president was openly saying he was going to make himself a dictator... that sitting Presidency 100% would not leave office, and 95% of the time would still be president moving forward. It's kind of crazy that we aren't just expecting Biden to stay anyways if you look at literally every other moment in history where this has happened in another so-called Democracy. But them getting all worked up over pardoning his son is apparently the crime of the century. Just imagine if he actually used the power SCOTUS just gave him??
This pardon doesn't only protect Hunter. It helps protect anyone else involved in any crimes concerning foreign influencing peddling up to and including Joe Biden himself.
The unilateral power of presidents and governors to pardon is a bad idea precisely because of situations like this. There are no doubt plenty of shady pardons pronounced in the backrooms of lame-duck administrations during their waning days and weeks that we never hear about. But in a system where we give presidents this sort of power, to expect them not to utilize it to benefit themselves and their families is naive. They all would. At least this one is out in the open and he gave his (personally biased) reasons for. My only qualm is Biden making previous public statements he would never do such a thing - that was always a politically-motivated lie.
