Do you want him to be given minutes when he is clearly playing as a net negative player? Ime clearly doesn't like what he's seen from him in practice if he's not willing to give him chances in game.
How's it different than Jalen and Reed? They are both negative players right now and they get minutes. If someone was actually playing well ahead of him I wouldn't care. But what is our other option.
I'm not trying to single you out, but people have short memories. As I've said in the past, the issues with Cam go back to last season. And his shooting/scoring was abysmal toward the end of the season, especially his 3 pt. shooting. His first 28 games : 47.8% FG, 40.3% 3PT His final 19 games : 42.5% FG, 30.7% 3PT I think people tend to remember his summer league and G-League domination, but forget the latter portion of last season. If Cam isn't scoring, he's not much use on the court right now. That, and I'm sure they've told him to try and "make the right play", pass the ball, keep it moving, play strong defense, etc., and while he may have improved on some of that, he's still figuring that stuff out. Down in the G-League, he's lighting it up again. Go figure. Also, FVV with a broken shot is still more valuable, by far, than a Cam with a broken shot.
Thing is I don't even think he's good. But those shooting splits blow Jalen's out the water. Again the only reason I even think he should play is because Jalen has been so bad. But also I think he's a better fit with sengun. He's a better cutter/finisher and he's a better shooter when's he open. I don't want him creating shots at all. I'm not sure how many minutes he played with sengun this year, but I don't think it was a lot and he would really benefit from it.
Every post you make has been about offense. Defense matters more to Ime, and Cam doesn’t play it. Culture matters the most, and Cam doesn’t fit it until he learns to try hard at anything besides 1 to 1 scoring. Especially as for the last 6 months his 1 to 1 scoring hasn’t been worth it. He will get a chance again, and I hope he takes it. In theory I agree he could be a great fit with Sengun, but in reality he is a one-way player who has been bad at that one-way since midway through last season
Jalen didn't play defense much either when he started. My point is Cam just doesn't seem to get the same chance.
When Jalen started out, the whole team culture was different. When Udoka took over, Jalen already had two years experience under his belt. And as bad as Jalen's playmaking decision goes, Cam's is even worse. Some people think Cam is already better than Jalen. I think that's mostly because of their disappointment of Jalen. Cam has never been better than Jalen other than the hot shooting stretch at the beginning of his rookie season.
Nice work in the GL from CAM. If he gets a chance, I hope that we see improved body language. Udoka has to beat that immature crap out of him before he builds him back up.
Cam's problem, even if he fixes the offense, is that he sometimes just looks lost out there. He gets lost on defense and wrecks the defense, as well. As for being better than Jalen? Jalen is inconsistent as hell, but I'd take him over current Cam. I don't know if Cam is just ignoring what's being told to him, or if he's just incapable of doing things. Sometimes it looks like he's doing alright, but then reverts back to "old Cam".
It’s crazy how people have already given up on cam when he’s clearly better than Jalen, but I guess that’s how locker room politics work. You’re not really afforded the luxury to fail when you’re the 20th pick in the draft and not the second. He’s 20 years old and not even close to reaching his potential but people already want to label him just because his assists numbers are a little low and because his three point percentage was low on a six game sample size. The same people that have given up on cam now are the same people that hated amen Thompson when he was drafted because they are so shortsighted and impatient that they lack the knowledge and foresight to see his potential.
I think in the long run Cam has a shot to be better than Jalen. It's not like Jalen has set the bar so high that it will take a lot to jump him. Not guaranteed but I definitely wouldn't rule it out.
Sometimes I wonder if people REALLY think about what they are saying. If the team he's on doesn't want him and has been trying to unload him for yrs.....WHY WOULD ANYBODY ELSE WANT HIM?
I really like Cam. I believe in guys that UH and Villanova believe in as a HUGE college hoops fan. If you’ve played in those systems, Udoka should feel like an extension. I may have my timeline off, but if you’re a Jay Wright guy and you leaned into that Udoka should feel like home. But you need to knock down the open jumper when the ball finds you
