@Hemingway At what point do you admit that the Jalen experiment was a failure? That he will never reach this elusive potential he apparently has. After this year? After year five? After three plus years, Jalen is a net negative and is almost unplayable. What use is a scorer who cannot score? His other parts of the game do not come close to even equalizing his weaknesses. No one actually believes the Lavine swap will even be considered, but trades like this áre what the Rockets will encounter in the trade market due to Jalen's consistantly poor play and new price tag. You're acting like Jalen's contract won't affect this team's ability to improve, yet Lavine's will? They are a wash, in my opinion. Jalen has an extra year and Lavine is paid a bit more than 10 million compared to Jalen for two seasons. Give me the albatross contract that ends a year sooner.
Lavine is hot from 3 right now but he's about to turn 30, is an injury waiting to happen, and has perhaps the worst contract currently in the NBA. Y'all look at his 15 game sample this season and think you found a cheat code. You haven't. He's hot right now but will revert to who he has been his whole career. There's a reason Chicago is dying to unload him.
Is it crazy to give green four or five years? I don’t think so. This is his fourth NBA season and I think that his G league gear and the first couple Silas years were not helpful at all. I don’t personally see the contract going negative in value. Especially if you consider the cap escalation that we will see over the next couple years. If this is where he is at the end of the season, I’m all about trying to trade him to upgrade that spot, but I am not going to be shocked if he levels up Later on down the road. I don’t think that we were ever going to be a team with a bunch of cap space nor are there any players that are really going to be available and feasible so I very much like having him locked up the next few years, even if it ends up an overpay, I don’t think it’s crippling. All of that being said, I would be fine if we went to try to start Amen.
If he isn't up to snuff for the 3rd time this season, will the Rockets cut or trade Cam instead of demoting him to the Vipers yet again? IMO, there is very little chance they let him go, but a smidgeon of doubt is creeping in.
Cam does not have trade value if he can’t even make the Rockets roster. If you think a team would give up a 1st round pick for him, forget it. At best, he would be a throw-in as part of a major trade before the deadline or the offseason.
My guess is that they're calling Whitmore up because there is a lull in the Rockets schedule before the OKC game, and so they want him to be part of the extended practice sessions. I think it's part of the player's process while working with the Vipers.
Been thinking about this too. Cam needs to get his **** together. He's missing a great opportunity right now and it's all because of choices. What if he needs 2 years of development? Last year was a bit of a hot streak but that doesn't mean his potential is any different. Udoka has done wonders for Green's effort, defense and selfishness. Right now Green is better at those 3 things than I thought he would be by the age of 25. I really think Whitmore is in the perfect hands here if he's coachable.
His value on here fell so fast, end of last season he was considered a top prospect and top 5 pick in a redraft of that class. We are like 2 months into the season and he has barely played, we have the advantage of seeing what is going on, but I would not put it past a team thinking hes behind a lot of young players that need to be developed. The primary reason we traded the Nets their picks back is because we can only develop so many young guys at once, and now we are looking to compete in playoffs. We need to also figure out how to develop Reed while competing. This is the sales pitch to a buyer. You should be able to get a late first or better for him. He is 20 years old and won't be 21 until next season. I find it hard to believe he goes from top 5 in a redraft to not worth a 1st rounder after just playing 80 minutes this season. He also is injured currently, he was shooting 5% from 3, there is a chance he was injured to start the season. Just too small of a sample size to draw conclusions.
I just don't understand how he could be worse. Which made no sense as to why he never got a fair shot this year. Same with Reed, I don't think Reed is earning his minutes either so why is Cam the only one in the dog house other than where they were picked
He plays worse defense, doesn't play within the offense, can't pass and he's been shooting worse than Jalen
On what sample size? He's barely played at all his averages mean nothing most of the time he's in the game it's garbage time.
Get real man, Whitmore is more critical of himself than you are. You’re the one person who didn’t mind his performances. The right attitude is he needs to get better and I believe he will. But he was just not playing up to his own standards and hasn’t earned the right to get rhythm shots. He has to be better than that. Green tries hard on defense even if he’s not great at concentrating. Udoka is doing the right thing. You can’t reward that with minutes. That’s going back to instilling bad habits like the Silas days. The least you can do is try on defense, pass the ball and take open shots. Better to develop him right from now.
Did I say he played well? If everyone got benched for playing 2 bad games would we even have a team? I mean fvv started the season shooting like 10%. The difference is whitmore had a whole season last year where he shot way better than he's showing. And even better than Green ever has.
