He scored 41 in 41 minutes and took only 6 threes. Those are not the same shots, not even close. At his average rate he would have shot over 10 threes in 41 minutes. He scored significantly more points than average while shooting less long jumpers. Even making 3s at his normal rate would have netted an efficient 35 points. In one game, his shot ratio inside 3 feet (where he shoots 69%) jumped from 19% to 22%. He won't always get the whistles, but he is far...far better when he attacks the rim. It won't stick, because it never sticks, but it was different from usual...significantly.
He made his ****ing shots. you comparing one game to the rest of the season is ridiculous. He made the shots he took the rockets did nothing different. they ran the same plays its just that this time its against a bad team and he made his shots. its what he always looks like against bad teams. im not even sure why i replied to this. i feel like im saying the same **** about jalen for the past 2 years and no matter how right he proves me there's always idiots after a good game that act like he has improved lol its like silas when we went on a short win streak and fools were acting like he was coach of the year lol anyway i think ive said all i needed to say in this post.
Calm down sonny it isn't that serious. It's OK to acknowledge that a not smart player played a smart game. Literally nobody is saying he turned a corner, if your reading comprehension wasn't so bad you would realize I literally stated as much in my post.
Who said anything about boasting? The fact your mind thinks this shows your complete lack of understanding of what i wrote.
He literally showed you, statistically, how Green did NOT take the same shots as normal. It wasn’t a matter of just making his shots. None of that has anything to do with turning a corner, etc. But screaming that he just made shots and the “Rockets did nothing different” is just factually incorrect, as he showed you very clearly. I hope you are telling the truth about being done with the thread, because your ignorant bellowing with zero reading comprehension is really annoying to the rest of us.
They did not run just the same sets. Udoka added a few wrinkles and played old sets less frequently last 2 games. I explained this already. Apparently you did not read
I wouldn't get your hopes up. It's very predictable what happens when he has to face the likes of Lopez, Gobert, even Zubac. I feel like they don't even have to put in much effort to meet Jalen at the rim, he just jumps right into them over and over again. I think it's rather encouraging that Jalen can punish teams with weak tim protectors. At least he's reliable in that way. Jalen is not as stupid as we make it out to be. He actually only settles for jumpers when he knows he just gets stuffed at the rim. At this point he will just have to magically improve his jump shooting, or magically gain a **** ton of muscles that he can challenge bigs at the rim. In his current state he's just not a good scorer against decent defense.
That's not true. Last year, Sexton had a much better season with respect to those metrics and the Jazz were still horrible. Sengun had great advanced metrics when the Rockets were winning 20 games. Oh, sure. Jalen's been one of the worst players on the team relative to their expected role on the team, certainly. My earlier post was solely addressing the Sexton comparison. He hasn't had a good year and it's fair to criticize, let's just not be hyperbolic about it.
Just get to the FT line 6-8 times a game and get 4-5 assists. The rest will take care of itself, trust me.
I don't think it's a direct correlation. Most of the time we put him in position to score. He comes off a screen and just shoots, or cuts and shoots. The rockets are trying to limit his decision making cuz it's very suspect. But when he actually has the ball and is asked to ISO it's bad, he still not strong enough and gets pushed off his spot routinely and any time he has to reset it's basically a turnover.
I am ecpecting more asists than him, he is a SG and funny that our center averages 4 times asists than him. He has to increase his basketball iq and learn to make good shot selections.. I like him and want him to be successfull. But in a team where a superstar Center caliber Sengun plays, no chance for a player like Green can be numero uno. Sengun is Batman and Green can be Robin(if he becomes consistent) I like this Duo so much and want them to become great
According to NBA.com shot tracker, his current season is the highest percentage of unassisted fgs made at right above 60%. So he is playing the most on ball he ever has in his career even when you include the Silas years.
I don't disagree he has the ball a lot. My point was when he's successful it's usually when he's going down hill off screens and not asked to make decisions or shooting quick pull up threes. When we leave him there to try to make plays he's terrible at it? Hence his 13% isolation fg percentage and his high turnover rate.
Isolation is not the only way a player is "on ball". Most "on ball" possessions for Green are going to pnr type possessions. Guards of the mold of Ja, Green, Fox, Maxey don't do most of their damage in iso. When gus like these get iso possessions it's usually when the play breaks down and they are put in a iso position where help defenders are also blocking the driving lanes while he shot clock is running down. These guys rarely get genuine iso possessions where their side of the half court is completely cleared out where they just have to beat one defender to get to the rim. Watch most of the possessions Green is in "iso". Its when the original play design fails and Green still has the ball and defenses are hedged all over to his side. He rarely is in a position where he just had to beat one defender to score. The rare times Green is completely isolated at the wing area outside the three point line where there is literally only one defender between him and the rim, he also most always blows by that defender for a clean rim look.
It's actually about 2 times, not 4 times. But I get your point. Having less than 3 apg for a starting guard (let alone numero uno) is just not good. You have to be good at either shooting or play making to be a good offensive guard. You can't be bad at both. I don't know which is more likely to improve for Jalen, decision making or shooting.
Decision-making. His shooting is what it is. It might be able to improve in the offseason with a rigorous program to up his 3 pt%. He either has never put in that effort or whatever he's tried isn't working. His shot is getting worse. If he reduces bad shots then his % should go up but improving shooting will have to wait until the offseason. He can be taught to never take a ****ing step back three again. And if he doesn't listen then just bench him until he does. He loves the wide open three and he sucks at it. (Though I would like to see his 3pt% in different situations.) I think his 3's are best on a catch and shoot but I haven't looked at the stats. Jalen appears to have the agility to play make but he doesn't know when to do what. He has an almost 1:1 a/to ratio and that's pretty bad.
It doesn't matter what you think, usage and shot attempts are both correlated with turnovers in NBA history. We're not sharing opinions, I'm telling you what the recorded data says. That's why all those 102 players also have high turnovers. You try to create for yourself or your teammates, you will get turnovers. Part of the reasons Jalen continues to start: he plays defense and keeps turnovers low. What you're complaining about is ridiculous. He's the least turnover prone of any playmaker but FVV on the roster. Amen averages 1.8 TO's in just 26 minutes and he barely has the usage of Jalen. Sheppard higher. Cam way higher.
Aside from Cam, all of the players above (and Alperen) are chasing 2/1 A2T ratios. JG is a 1/1 guy. Big difference.
The only reason Jalen still starts is cuz we gave him 100 million dollars and he was the 3rd over all pick. Nothing else even makes sense cuz he's been terrible. He averages 2 assists a game hardly a play maker. If you watch the games he's more successful when he doesnt have to process anything. Come off screens and go, fast breaks, or just shoot. Once he's asked to do anything else it's been pretty bad all year.
