A time to remember when the natives of this country helped out some poor starving immigrants, instead of separating the children from their parents and putting them in cages.

A time to remember the nature of what Thanksgiving is all about, helping your neighbors and those less fortunate than you.

Building bridges not walls - and everyone thriving.....good thing the Indians weren't racist like a good number of our electorate or our ancestors would have died before they got a foothold.

The Pilgrims were granted permission by the English Crown to settle in America and start a colony. Their settlement was backed by a royal charter and the doctrine of discovery. Very very different situation than today's illegal aliens who simply run across the border without permission.

Not sure the lesson to draw from Thanksgiving is to be nice like the Native Americans.

It did not work out so well for them.

If the illegal immigrants were granted permission by the Mexican government to cross the border, would that change your position? The point of Thanksgiving is not that the Pilgrims had permission from where they were leaving, it is that they were welcomed by the people where they arrived (even if it didn't work out so well for the native Americans).

I think his point is that illegal immigration had nothing to do with the pilgrims and Thanksgiving. And lets not pretend the natives were being altruistic. If an advanced species from another planet crashed in N Korea, im sure Kim Jong Un would happily fix them up and become friends with them.

But either way, I don't think the Pilgrims were gorging themselves with tasty high carb foods followed by a nice nap, football and spending lots of money at the online market in a warm cozy home. lots of grand standing here and I am sure the OP had a massive cornucopia down at the border welcoming these illegal immigrants.

Pointing out the legality (from the English perspective) of the immigration (or really, emigration) of the pilgrims was a poor rhetorical choice if that wass the case.
Whatever their personal motivations, the natives did cooperate with the pilgrims and shared a meal with them in peace and friendship, memorialized by Thanksgiving.
Obviously, since football and the Internet didn't exist and the whole point was that the pilgrims were not comfortable and benefited from the generosity of the natives.
While I can't speak for the OP, I can say that the modern concept of the nation state is vastly different than that of the natives in the 1500s.

Or of any era, where we as a country survived on the backs of immigrants, like the Chinese and Irish that built the railroads, or the Hispanics that have been the primary pickers of our vegetables for more than 100 years.

It is just smoke and mirrors about complaining, immigrants are statistically more law abiding, and a positive influence on our society.

We have children being shot in schools yet, we b**** about the tomato pickers......what a weird backwards assed country we live in.

There is an inherent irony in ignoring the criminality of illegal immigrants while decrying the statistically far more rare school shootings. Even limiting it to killings, from the years 2017-2021 (the most recent time period I could quickly find overlapping stats), there were 69 murders in schools and 71 murders by illegal immigrants.
