Saw a stat recently that City of Houston has the 4th most public park acreage of US cities (no idea what the percentage is compared to others). I also imagine CoH would rank quite high in amount of concrete acreage.

Trying to find this factoid sent me down a rabbit hole (I couldn’t find it).

Houston, having the most population in the top 10 of cities in term of square miles really should have more parks and greenspace.

I honestly think that NRG isn’t even that nice anymore. It’s not bad but doesn’t really wow you at all.

I say if the structure of the Astrodome is still that solid why not just refurbish the hell out of it and make a state of the art Astrodome 2.0 in 5 to 10 years and NRG can just be a sister facility. Astrodome could be for big college games and concerts. Cynthia Woods is such an inconvenient venue for most of the metropolex anyways. Why not just re-model the Astrodome for bowl games, concerts, etc?

In defense of Houston's lack of greenspace, it's pretty much the worst city on earth to spend time outside in. It's either hot as **** or flooding.

That being said, places where people naturally congregate are ideal for these spaces.

NRG desperately needs such a place, but nobody wants to pay for it or have the Astrodome's blood on their hands, so we'll be stuck in this situation until the ****ing thing falls down.

Don't you think reducing this VAST AMOUNT of parking lots would help with perceived heat?
We act like we are the only place on earth that's hot.

Don't you live in DC which was also built on a swamp?

And you've never been outside of the US. Hell, you've never even been south of I-10, have you?

No. But it makes for a cute slogan.

DC heat at its peak rivals Houston, but it only lasts for a maximum of about 2 months, whereas Houston's lasts like 5 or 6.

When I first moved here I thought it was obnoxiously hot, but then I realized I only felt that way because this is a place people spend a lot of time outdoors in. Whereas in Houston you spend most half the year desperately running from air conditioner to air conditioner.
