@ElPigto “We love our team. We thought we had a great offseason adding Caleb, Drum and sixth man winner Eric Gordon, three solid veterans who know the game, great in the locker room and feel can help us on the court — along with of course Paul, who is a top 5 player. You add that to Joel and Tyrese and we think we have the best big three in the league. We love our depth. We should be among the favorites next year. We obviously have to go out and prove it and I think we will.”

not having to deal with the greatest team in sports history probably helped those odds

He said PG is top 5?

I can't find a way to fit him in the top 15 at this point for sure. Is he even top 25 anymore? And listen, adding a top 30ish player to a roster with Embiid and Maxey should be fantastic in theory so I'm not even downplaying the acquisition. But when they signed him, I assumed they viewed him as their 3rd best player. Are Embiid, Maxey and PG all top 5? ha

I am not saying Morey is a fraud, but results are results- like so many of the so-called disruptors of the last 20 years, he has been more adept at public relations than in his nominal field. Nearly 20 years into his GM tenure, Morey has team building blind spots and he has not adjusted. Zero finals appearences.

It's kind of weird that you make this thread to say Morey is stupid, when he was the one who built that 2018 team, and it was the only team to ever go toe-to-toe with the Warriors when they had the big-4 all playing.

Where did I say he was stupid to the point where I in your eyes claim he’s not a solid GM who indeed built that team? I acknowledge that in the title, hence the reference…. It’s OBVIOUSLY about this claim, which ironically disrespects that 2018 team HE built and YOU defend in a roundabout way.

In that case what's the point of this thread? That a veteran-laden team that stayed healthy was better than a team that got derailed by injuries from day 1?

Nobody could have predicted that Embiid and PG13 might get injured, right?

Gifted and innovative, Morey always had blind spots for team building beyond analytics and pure talent, like team chemistry, patience to let team rosters gel over seasons, and fundamental honesty with players and fans.

He lacked the organic basketball experience and team chemistry of someone like Jerry West who actually played basketball and competitive team sports.

Say what you want about Rafael, who has done an outstanding job to get the team where it is now, he actually played basketball on the college level and has an understanding of it from that experience as well as the analytic side.

Even Sam Presti played basketball at Emerson College and Bob Myers of GSW championship fame played basketball at UCLA. Daryl never had that human and sports experience touch

Nothing is final and he may win a ring someday, but he'll have to grow as a GM imo.

You don't need a magic eight ball to make that prediction. That's for damn sure.

The Threes and Layups ruined James Harden midrange game in the playoffs. Those shots were always open and available.

Daryl Morey advice of Shooting only Threes was ridiculously crazy 0-27 from Three in 2018 WCF against the Warriors without Chris Paul at Home. Scott Foster as Referee wiping out Points.

Morey's metrics clearly don't take into account that Joel Embiid is now late career TMac. His meniscus is toast.

He’s tripping. That 2018 team was special. It will always be one of my favorite teams ever. God damn CPs hammy.
